Purchase Leather Furniture
Comments (6)There are numerous things to think about when purchasing leather furniture for your home. Since you will obviously want to feel comfortable in your furniture, you will need to look around and decide which grade leather you want. The higher the grade the more expensive the pieces will be, however they will also look better and be more comfortable for you to sit or lye down in.By investing in high grade leather furniture, you will be saving yourself a lot of money in replacements over the following years. There are many different types of leather furniture to look through, so make sure you take the time to find what you want....See MoreAnother leather furniture question
Comments (3)I'm just a consumer, not an expert, but the Luke Leather site indicates that the sofa is constructed using a web technique not 8-way hand tied. This is a less expensive construction technique, and some think an inferior technique. You can search this site and the web for many discussions about the web versus hand tied issue. I'm told that the Europeans think we Americans are nuts for being so obsessed on 8-way hand tied and that they do not believe it to be an indication of quality. That being said there is no doubt that many of the nicest, most expensive leather sofas (such as Hancock & Moore) use 8-way hand tied. The Luke site also talks about the tilt of the seat. I suspect the seat cushion is wedge shaped with the more narrow side closest to the back. I believe this is a common Italian design feature. I've sat in a sofa constructed in such a manner and I have to say it was pretty soft and comfortable. I don't know if there are any long term problems associated with using wedge shaped cushions. When I looked at a sofa constructed in the Italian technique (i.e. with a web support and wedge cushions) I noticed that the sofa frame flexed if you picked it up at the corner, the legs screwed into the frame (in other words the legs were not an extension of the frame), and the whole sofa felt light and a bit cheap. The lack of weight results, in large part, from the lack of heavy springs, but I also suspect it wasn't that solidly constructed. That does not mean the Luke sofa isn't made well, but how does one tell based on a web page? I would also say the purchaser needs to think about the cost and intended use. The site doesn't provide prices, but I think price is a key issue. If it looks nice and sits in a room that is seldom used, does it really matter how solid it is? On the other hand if it's going to get heavy use maybe strength of construction is an important issue. Also if the price is cheap enough one might rationalize that they will keep it for 5 - 7 years (or less) and then toss it for the latest design. For people that like to redecorate frequently this might be a wise choice....See MoreDog friendly faux leather furniture?
Comments (8)I can tell you that I love my Flexsteel. It has a lifetime warranty and is very easy to move for cleaning because the steel frame is so much lighter than wood. It's ten years old and the foam has held up incredibly well. I just had a slipcover made for it because I had 3 kids and now have 2 dogs and a cat and the upholstery wasn't great anymore. Part of that was the upholstery I chose at the time but there are many more options now. Mine has a tight back, which I love because I never have to worry about fluffing up saggy cushions. When I need to buy a new sofa, I'll go right back to Flexsteel....See Morepets and leather furniture
Comments (8)A good quality leather sofa in a leather that is not butter soft but with a bit of grain will stand up to 2 dogs for a very long time.I have white leather in my LR which we use daily with at the moment just one big pyrenees but we did also have 2 golden crosses the furniture is 12 yrs old and still looks like new. When buying leather you truly get what you pay for.I prefer Italian made leather because I do not like srpings in my furniture . I think some of the sunbrella fabrics work okay but I find them a bit rough feeling . Get the best possble pieces you can afford.BTW please no sectional get a sofa and 2 chairs or 2 sofas and 2 choirs but no sectional and especially one with a chaise....See Moreannathome
