Need layout help with Master Bath/Main Bath redo
Comments (7)Hi Cat-Mom, Yup, we're also renoing Living Room and Master Bedroom at the same time- you? :>) I just faux-painted our entry stair railing to make do until we add on to our front entry. So many balls in the air, hard to juggle it all at one time. kgwlisa, That's what I had thought of so far, basement ceiling has been ripped down, so all the plumbing is fully exposed, and present shower and bath have leaking problems, so things pretty well have to be redone anyways. I was even contemplating 'borrowing' more out of the common wall when we build it, by building in storage behind mirror and perhaps a deeper vanity. I'm assuming this is a fairly basic/common plan, and hopefully others have paved the path... Rae...See MoreMaster Bath Layout Opinions
Comments (6)I notice 2 things that would bother me: It looks like the shower has the 2 shower heads directly across from each other, so that 2 users would be back-to-back in a 4' wide space. That would make for pretty crowded showering in a really large shower. I would leave the one head on the top exterior wall and move the second head to the short wall opposite the bench. With no shower head on the bottom side, you could have less wall and more glass between the shower and the rest of the bath, which will make the shower feel more open and let more natural light into the rest of the bathroom. I would not like to have to walk all the way through the bathroom to get to the closet. Unless it really messes up your furniture arrangement in the bedroom, I would move the closet door to the bottom wall of the bedroom. This should give you better storage in the closet too, since you can have two uninterrupted 12'-4" runs of rods and/or shelves....See MoreMaster Bath Layout/Doorways Opinions Please
Comments (20)Still thinking about your bath/closet situation. Given that you're not bath people and there is a bathtub in the hall bathroom, it would free up quite a bit of space in your Master bath if there wasn't a tub. Unrelated to the MB area: if the seating area was moved towards the front of the house, then that space could be used as a small entrance foyer - including a coat closet. You could have i.e. higher windows around the fireplace to provide some privacy along that wall (alternatively, many folks don't find TVs over fireplaces to be comfy - you could rotate the TV + furniture 90º so the section is facing the front of the house/TV)...See MoreNew Build - Master Bath Design Help Needed
Comments (19)I''d change the patio door to a window in a single heartbeat. Or eliminate it. Use that wall for the bed. Your "wishes" are exceeding what the footprint will allow. Move the bath entry to center on the bath window and bench. You will have the IDENTICAL amount o useful inches on bed wall, ( more if you reverse the entry door swing, ) and a direct route for both of you into the bath.............or not) Yes, it makes a bit longer walk to the closet in the middle of the day....ASSUMING THE BATH LOOKS LIKE below..........and your bed on on the far opposite wall, change door to window. . You can't have everything : ) A bank of linen drawers in place of the left side vanity will still put the focus ON your little window seat, and give you really good storage. Pop a beautiful mirror over and expand the light even more, while also "repeating" the mirror on the now right side vanity. It need not be perfectly symmetrical to be lovely and useful, especially for the long term. A trip around the bed, and bumping walls to get to a toilet......will render the cute little bench, not very cute when you hear the yelp and cussing in the middle of the night....See MoreFeatherBee
