Comments (5)I have a similar problem on a smaller scale. Layout sounds very familiar. We didn't do built-ins because my DH did not want all the clutter so now we have a new beautiful low and long antique console on the wall but it only takes up half the space horizontally and not much vertically. I feel like this expanse of wall is bedeviling me. I am considering sconces as in this inspiration photo. At the moment I regret not having the built-ins because I need places to put my "stuff". Perhaps that was what DH was trying to avoid. I'm curious to see other suggestions and ideas. I think the Ikea idea is great and might be a cost-effective solution for you with such a long wall....See MoreHelp Decorating Around Huge TV
Comments (61)How about the shutters, but with wall lamps attached? A tiny whole could be drilled into the shutter where the cord would go, completely invisible. FYI, hard wired wall lamps can be reworked and become plug ins, easy peasy. With the wood ceiling adding a rustic element, shutters would follow that sort of style w/o 'bringing in the barn.' While I like the pictures as well as the shelves, why not think outside the box? You could still have pictures on either side of the shutters, maybe 3 smaller vertical or 2 larger horizontal, depending on how much wall space you want to take up....See MoreHELP with this Huge blank wall
Comments (14)I would bring the colors of the brick and the siding closer together so there isn't as much contrast. I'm not a fan of red brick, so I would paint the brick a lighter, neutral color and then paint the siding the same to bring them together. From there, I would build some type of pergola type structure over the two garages, and maybe paint it the same darker contrast color as the shutters on the front, to bring that huge side area into scale with the garage doors....See MoreHuge wall=blank canvas
Comments (10)Love that room! Agree the couch should move out to flank the fireplace, ideally with a matching couch or couple of chairs opposite it with a large coffee table or big ottoman between them. On the large wall consider adding a low bookcase or buffet/sideboard, something that isn't too big and compliments the corner cabinet to help orient the center of the space. Then you can add some art above the buffet, one big piece or several smaller ones depending on your sister's taste to fill out the wall space. Here's a couple of pics I had in my ideabooks as examples of the furniture....See MoreCCM Countertop and Cabinet Manufacturing
