Comments (57)@MaryBocaTX When I first did this, I bought 60 empty spice jars from Penzey's — 48 of their 1/2 cup A jars and 12 of their 1 cup C jars (which fit the bigger holes on the right and are used for the spices we got through a lot of) and then filled them individually with spices purchased in bulk (mostly in bags) also from Penzey's. This did mean that I had a box with a bunch of overflow spices I kept in our storage room in the basement — I'd use the extra spices there to refill the individual spice jars when they got low. You can buy the empty spice jars here: https://www.penzeys.com/online-catalog/empty-jars/c-24/p-1616/pd-s However, conveniently the 1/2 cup A jars are the same ones you get when you order individual spices in 1/2 cup jars from Penzey's, so when I recently replaced a bunch of aging spices that were losing a bit of potency, this time I just ordered them in the 1/2 cup jars to start and swapped out the jars entirely — this is definitely easier than filling empty jars. And this also means that the spices come with the correct shaker top. So, if I were to do this from scratch, I'd settle on the 1/2 cup jar size from Penzey's as being your base jar size, order all the spices you want from them in that size and just put colored labels on top of those already full jars, And then I'd order a handful of empty jars for spices that you already have or are getting from other sources....See MoreNeed solution for awkward space in County French master bath
Comments (7)The first thought that came to my mind was 'light'. On the section of wall Next to the window, place a reflective serface (but not mirror), angled to aim more light into the toilet nook. [Mirror reflction would startle one into thinking someone else were in the room. Giggle.] Lower level could hold a seating unit w/ storage boxes that rises up (elevator style), flush when closed, Cushions to mimic colors / shapes of tub end. Tention rod across w/ curtain like tub area would still allow light, but result in cozy reading nook. Smaller room easier to keep warm....See MoreBroader discussion re: closets Vs. non-fixed storage solutions.
Comments (22)I like a mix I saw a walk-in closet first time in my life when I first came to the States. I thought it's kinda neat)) When my late Grandma did her first and last remodel, in the eighties, she "borrowed" space between two rooms (we had three altogether, and it didn't go by bedrooms like here)-and that's how we had two big, not walk in but still quite big closets. That was neat too. It was a nicely sized apartment but we were six people there. Everything was very organized..had to be. But we had lots of free standing pieces..say my and my brother's clothes all except for coats went in a small wardrobe, and the wardrobe wasn't in our room, but in a different, bigger room, where Grandma and Grandpa slept. Books, we had in every room. We have a lots of books now too-but to be honest, it's but a small percentage of what we used to have when I was a little girl. One can't compare. In short, I still find the concept of built in closet pretty neat)) But I love free standing pieces too, a lot. I think the right mix gives one function, form, flexibility and beauty. So I go by that. Except for the garage..that's my DH's kingdom..and he abhores the thought of ruling there too..:) but doesn't want anybody's help as much as I beg. He thinks closets help, shelves help, this or that surface will help..no, nothing will help..I will help if you let me:) The concept is important, but it can't be fully functionable and enjoyable without people handling it, you know....See MoreI need help with layout on owner’s closet to optimize storage/ space
Comments (2)Go to https://www.containerstore.com/custom-closets. They will custom design a closet for you. No need to buy anything, but it will help you decide how to proceed. You can always buy a portion of what is designed and incorporate your own dresser or your own shoe storage. When Storables was in business years ago, we had several ”sit downs” with their designer in order to get our new master closet just right for us....See MoreRobin Grundy
