I also have long gray hair. They gray ones just seem to do whatever they want, so a ponytail holder is my best friend.

I have short grey hair, and it isn't a bother at all. I quit having long hair in 1981. Just to hot in the summer, and to static in the winter.

I have short gray (grey?) hair. Keeping it short is the best way to achieve control of the natural curl. To be honest, I just don't get the need to color one's hair. It is what nature gave you.

Mine is getting more gray by the day! I don't color it. I am fine with what nature gives me. It is silver around my face and silver and black the rest.

I wanted to be the kind of person who did not color her grey hair. Maybe one day in the future I will be, but not now. I am 49 and from the back you can hardly see any white hairs in my very dark brown hair, maybe a few individual strands. Around my face I have a ton of white hair. The look is so messy, I cannot stand it, so I use vegetable to dye to color it and not have an outgrowth line.

My stylist told me that women come in and pay her to give them gray streaks like mine, hahaha! I am not allowed to bring up the subject of coloring my hair....she pretends to threaten me with her broom.

My mom had black hair but went gray at age 16. Dad was dark brown until he died in his 80's. I had the dark brown hair but it is now mixed with the gray. I don't like it and used to color it my natural dark brown, but I don't have the energy to do it anymore, so for now I am salt and pepper and will stay that way.

I would love to keep my gray but at 34, I feel like it ages me too much. I started going gray at 18 (genetics) and now it's very significant, of course right at the top of my head where it's most noticeable. I really don't like dying my hair but I don't like the alternatives either. Might try some henna dye to minimize the chemical exposure at least.

Mine is gray. When I was graying I got the usual you look distinguished. Double standard unfortunately. By former friend I told you about the one I dumped would go to elaborate and expensive lengths to color her hair which she told me was gray. Sometimes she would change color three times a month. She also hoarded shampoos and conditioners.

Thanks to my mom, I have a "skunk streak" at the top of my head. Not a good look at all. So I dye it. Unfortunately, the older I get the more often I have to dye it.

I have some grey mixed in with my short natural honey colored blond, but I'm 70 so it's no surprise. I may color it later, I'm not sure

I'll soon be 74 and I'm still not gray. I have a lot of gray right around my face but nowhere else. Instead, my hair just got darker and darker and it is an UGLY dark. So, I highlight my hair (not covering the gray) and just keep hoping.

I have a couple of very close friends in their 70's. They started going gray in their early 30's and started coloring their hair. Both now have significant hair lose on the top of their head! I can't help but wonder if it's due to dying it for so many years. Prematurely gray hair is usually stunning. I wouldn't worry about it "aging" me unless I worked in television news and needed to look glamorous.

I got my first white hairs in my senior year of college. When I was in my 30s, I frosted my brown hair with blond to hide it. Then I got tired of the time and expense and just cut it off, only to find that my hair looked just like it did when I was frosting it, but it was frosted with white and not blond. People asked who did my color. By the time I was 50, I had a head of all white hair, just like my father. I just have to be careful to avoid shampoos that are colored. No amber, pink, or green as it will color my hair. I use white or clear shampoos.

Right now I have hombre hair. About half gray for 4 inches & half brown. To be honest I started coloring my hair about 20 years ago when my brown hair started looking really mousy dull brown instead of the nuce dark brown with summer highlights I would get. I just kept it up until a few months ago when I was about to retire and realized I was getting about half gray mixed in with the brown. So far so good, but I've had to change most of the products I use.

Short and graying. I like my gray hair. I have earned each and every one! I love sitting in the back in Sunday School and seeing all the different old gray heads! So many variations, but all pretty.

FWIW to those who are unsure or hesitant, I get more compliments now (on a daily basis, which embarrases me, somewhat) than I EVER did when it was brown.

I had chemo and lost my hair which was wavy, brown shoulder length. When it came back in I had gray in front and the rest is darker than it was. It's also straight now. I wear it short, no color. So easy, I love it.

I had plenty of gray around my ears and mixed throughout the rest of my hair prior to chemo. It is just starting to grow back now, so we'll see. I'm expecting it to be grayer. I've kept my hair cut short for years and I'm sure I still will. I know I won't color it.

My hair is short and gray. I grayed early. People used to compliment me and ask if it was natural. My usual answer was "yes. Who the hell would dye their hair gray?". :)

My dad and brother had white hair. Mine is very white around my face. I dyed it once but the roots showed up so fast. Too much trouble.

I have a few strands, but not much. I found a white hair the other say. That was bit different.

My biggest surprise was my hair has turned darker. I discovered highlighting instead of perming about 8-10 years ago. Last year I tried to do it myself and accidently bleached it. I got tired of every hair stylist telling me they could blend that in and then ending up with more bleached hair. I spent the last year growing it out. I got the rest cut off in July. I think it is now officially brown. Dh married a blonde.

I wasn't going to color my hair anymore but did it one more time for my friend's daughter's wedding. It was multi colored and looked bad. So, going natural now. It does make me look older but I really don't care anymore. I have dark brown, reddish brown, and silvery gray all mixed in. Mostly dark dull brown when I don't color it. Most of the gray is sideburns and underneath. Wish it would all go silver because the color is really pretty but I think I take after my parents, who both had/have mostly dark hair.

Thanks for starting this thread and it helpful to see all the beautiful grays because I am trying to make the transition. The last time I saw my natural hair color was when I was 15 and discovered "Sun-In" (does anyone remember that?). At the time my hair was mousey brown. Luckily, my hair takes color well, so the Sun-In turned it a nice golden blonde. By various methods, I have pretty much maintained that color for the last 47 years. Now I am ready to stop. I am still using a bit of highlighting to blend as it grows out, but haven't even highlighted in 4 months. I had intended to get it highlighted last week while I was in Colorado where the only colorist I trust not to do too much works, but she was on vacation, so now it will be a little over two months until I can get more highlights and by then, I should know more. From the best I can tell, my natural color has darkened a bit since I was a teen and I am about 4O% gray. My shoulder length hair is a bit two toned now with the top darker than the ends but not as bad as I expected -- the gray helps blend with the blonde. If I need to blend more, I found a crayon like I product that I can rub on and brush through that works pretty well and washes out. I hope I can stick this out because I am tired of being tied to coloring every month or so.

I'm 60, and have about a square inch patch of gray in front of each ear. When I wear my medium brown hair up in a high pony tail, I have two perfect skunk stripes. If you look closely, you can see a few gray hairs mixed in with the rest of my hair, but they blend well.

My sister used Sun In or something like it, her hair was a light brown and she thought it mousy. She was at the beach all the time so it fit her look perfectly. My hair was darker with red highlights, guess I lucked out. Never saw the point of coloring hair, scarred by all the blue and pink and lavender haired ladies I saw around town let alone the ugly roots if they tried to eke out a couple extra days between colorings. Glad those days are mostly gone now!

Saw my first white hair in early 20s and by my mid 30s there was no point in continuing to pull them out. A few years ago I was the only silver haired lady under the age of 80 around here but lately I've been seeing quite a few younger women with silver hair. I liked the stage when I had streaks. Now when my hair is cut I'm surprised at all the dark hair left at the back.

I went short hair in an effort to fight the frizzies. Cut all the hair to the length of the frizz and it should be fine right? Not really but I've figured it out and now keep it short because hair in my face drives me right up the wall.

Mine is silver and a darker gray. I never colored my hair and used to have brown hair. I have had a chin length blunt cut for decades and the lightest part of my hair frames my face and picks up the color of my 100-year-old silver framed glasses.

I am almost 67 and most like could go all gray. I had my first gray patch in my mid/late twenties and pretty much ignored my gray until my forties when my hair started to look dull and mousy. So I home colored for a few years. Then I started having it done. Finding a good colorist changed my whole outlook. I'm not ready to go gray because I am having too much fun with all the highlights, lowlights and shades depending on the season. My skin tone isn't ready for gray hair either. I think it's easier for blonds or light brownettes to make the transition. They go to sandy to gray. Brunettes have to get past the drab, dull stage.

I remember Sun In. My best friend at the time and I went blond around age 13 by mixing up our own peroxide soap caps. I spent the next decade trying to grow it out. Finally got back to my natural color. See above for the rest of the timeline.

My hair is still mostly brown. Other than a couple times henna-ing it back in the 90's just for fun, I've never colored it. From a distance, I'm brown, but you can see fine white threads in there up close, sort of making it a dusty brown.

Back when white would first grow in, there'd be a thick brittle strand or two which would break off. The thick ones still do that, so it's the thin fine ones that will take over someday.

My Dad didn't turn grey until his 70's, although definite signs in his late sixties. I'm 63. Mom always hated her hair color so she never did NOT dye it until the last few years of her life, so I have no idea when hers went grey,

Dad's sister went grey late, too.. hers was an unusual "skunk white" on the top of her head going down the back, over nearly black hair. I liked it, it seemed distinguished. She is now all grey.

I could see henna-ing mine again, but I don't want harsh chemicals in my hair from other coloring agents, and besides I rather think I've earned the grey hairs.

Those darn chin hairs - I have one tiny patch on my chin, and on stray one that grows - I really dislike them and they are as white as can be.

I was a strawberry blond as a child, which morphed into a reddish brown. For some reason, it seems to me that naturally-"red"-haired women rarely go completely gray -- husband's grandmother kept her light auburn hair until she died in her 80s and she never had colored it.

At 71 (how the h*ll did THAT happen, lol), mine is still the same light auburn it has been most of my life, and I have never colored it, either. Unfortunately, in the past few years my forehead has become higher and higher -- arrrrgggghhhh. I loathe it. I'd be happy with some gray hair if it only would cover the receding line. (le sigh.) =(

I went gray in my 30's and started to color it then and still do. I had chemo last spring and the new hair is growing in almost completely gray except for a couple of weird brunette patches. You can be sure I will be dying it as soon as it's long enough.

Another early gray-er here... in my 20's. Hereditary. I have colored it for decades. My hair is still thick as ever. I often wondered if it would start to thin due to all the chemicals. So far so good. I just turned 56... hoping to retire around 60 and once that comes I hope to just let it go and see how it looks.

My most prominent gray is at my hairline around my face and right about my ears. I have dark brown hair and I usually color just the area where the grey is...A year or so ago I let it grow out for about 6 months and then covered it. It needs to be done again but I've just been putting it off. I do it myself at home. I use Satin color with their Semi color activator.
