Crying inside.

I am hoping to ride this out. But I don't know if I can. I do have some WOW root color powder, which works OK for me the last week before a color, but I think it will be less good with longer roots.

The other day I placed an order with Target and ordered 2 boxes of color. Because I figured there would be a run on boxed hair dye at some point. The color seemed the best for me of the options, but I have not done the box thing for years, and when I did do it I never had much luck either with the color or my amateurish application. But I figured it would be good to have the boxed color as a security blanket if things get bad. If I do have to use it, I will only do my roots. I would hope to enlist my husband's help in that endeavor, but that will take some persuasion.

I will probably use this as an opportunity to stop getting highlights and lowlights added to me hair.

I grey out my gray cold turkey a few years ago, but slowly added highlights, and then lowlights back into the mix. I want to see what my natural color is again so this is a good opportunity.

Box color is what will work more effectively, but will be what will give your hairdresser fits when you go back (maybe, not all are bad). Just be sure to try to keep most of the color on the roots and just pull it through to the ends for the last 5-10 min. so it doesn't "grab" color at the ends.

I'm really happy to have my natural color back and to be free from the chore of coloring. I encourage anyone who has been considering embracing their natural tones to just let it go. If this isn't the perfect excuse, I don't know what is. I suspect we may see a surge in beautiful silver hair once this is all behind us.

Just colored my hair at home yesterday -- feel so much better -- but I always color at home, so no change there. My problem is, I was transitioning to a lighter brown color, but only have stock of the darker brown, so that is what I put on yesterday. Once this is over I'll start using the lighter brown again, which my hairdresser really liked when I saw her 3 weeks ago.

I decided to quit coloring my hair shortly before CV - what superb timing. I had most of the color highlighted out so now that the gray is coming in it's not all that noticeable thankfully. If I had the previous brown with gray roots it would have driven me crazy. Now is a great time to go gray - limited opportunity to go anywhere or see anyone.

I recall we talked here about how there would be a run on over the counter hair dye. I've been wondering what the local newscasters are going to do about their haircuts and hair color. At least in MN hair salons have been closed for a few weeks and will be closed until at least the beginning of May.

I’m being thankful I let mine grow out 3 years ago. Just do it. What can be the harm for now? I’m just waiting for mine to get more silver.

Me too, Outside. I still have a good deal of very dark blonde to brown hair with a few streaks of gray and white, and I long for the white to take over!

I usually get single process color, maybe highlights once a year. For some reason when my hair absorbs the color, it looks kind of streaked. I have squirreled away two boxes of Clairol Root Touchup. I had my hair color done about two,weeks before everything shut down. I’ll need to do my roots in another five weeks. It will be pretty bad by then but since my hair is blonde, the line where the roots come in is not drastic. I also do a zig zag part to get through a week before there is no ignoring it. After the two boxes are used up, I don’t know. Hopefully hair color will be back on the shelves by then. My hairdresser will have to bail me out when this is over.

As for length, I’ll be going for the Rapunzel look.

I just ordered some from Madison Reed in case the hairdresser stays closed for awhile. I have almost shoulder length curly hair so the cut I can get away without for awhile. I am not due for a color for about 6 weeks or so but I may be tempted to bust this dye open. I feel so hopeless right now about the world right now I can’t even imagine I will even care

I plan to just wait. I think ;0) I have an appt for Apr 8 and we'll see what happens then. If it must be postponed, I'll be even a little less perfect for a while. My blond hair is becoming more and more gray so I will have some outgrow showing, but I can live with that. Not happily, but there are more important things going on right now and I'll do what's necessary to flatten the curve. It's been decades since I've played with my own hair color. I think I could just about buy a frosting kit and streak up the gray my cut reveals, but I'm not that desperate yet.

I plan on hibernating, maybe I'll buy a wig or a baseball cap. I'm in deep trouble.

My hair started turning white in my 20's and professional coloring began when I turned 40. For the last 10 years I've had it colored once a month. My next appointment should be next week - and there's no way that's going to happen.

I have no clue what brand or color to buy. I have one small aerosol of root touch up and when that's gone things will start turning ugly. I'm not concerned about a cut but I really don't want brown hair with white roots.

I had a hair appointment for Friday the 3rd which is obviously canceled. I have a chin length bob, no bangs but my ends can get kind of scraggly with time. I am working remotely for the next two months. I think my major conference will be canceled or maybe put to virtual if they can work it out. It's in San Francisco the end of May, so there is no way it's going to happen in person. So I am just going to ride this out for now since I am not going anywhere other than on the greenway, and there I wear a bike helmet, lol. But in grad school I used boxed color because I could not afford professional cut and color, so I went for the cut.

Now DH's hair is getting quite long, and i'm not sure what he will do. I have no skill in cutting men's hair. He's actually going to work, so his looking decent is a little more important.

Gsciencechick, I cut my husband's hair yesterday. I watched a bunch of YouTubes, didn't really understand anything, definitely did not have the electric clipper things, but just cleaned up the long hair. It looks better than before. I have four boys, so I may be getting lots of practice at this.

My hairstylist posted today they are going to do curbside pick up, selling us our usually mix. Another stylist said it's best to do that, if you can, rather than use box and go back to salon coloring. They are going in Monday to see what supplies they have/need.

DH's hairdresser is on quarantine with her DH for 2 weeks because her DH just returned last week from an overseas trip (Kwajalein). Then an announcement was made that all non-essential businesses in Alabama must close as of 5 pm today through April 17, which means salons and barber shops. He had texted her when this was announced to find out if he could get a haircut yesterday or today. She replied and asked if he looked good in a ponytail and told him why she couldn't work. Pretty funny and he took it well. I may end up trimming his hair in back. Or not.

Mtn, I've used a similar Bobbi Brown brow product in the past on my almost -not-there brows and it worked well. Good to know there is another one out there. I think I saw one by L'Oreal recently too.

There will come a day when I stop coloring my hair, but that day is not here! I am not old enough for what I fear is my natural color. I think it may be white. My grandmother and her sister's hair was white as long as I can remember. They didn't really gray - they pretty much went to white. My sister went gray a couple of years ago and she is 3 years younger than me. I think her hair is probably grayer than mine and still has some dark in it. But still, there have been a few times when people who don't know the both of us, think SHE is the older sister. My hair is dark brown. It's been professionally colored, I think, 3 times. All disasters. My hair is evidently porous and you CANNOT use the dark brown color I used to have on my hair. Every time I've had it done, it's been shoe polish BLACK. I have colored my own hair with box color for years. My hairdresser can't believe it and says it looks better than she could do. I do occasionally have it highlighted, but because I use dark blond color on my hair, I can even color myself with highlights. Mt. Nutrisse is a good one. It has an oil additive which makes my hair feel great and lots of shine (which dark hair needs). I have used a gloss when my hair color has looked a bit faded but don't routinely use one. I only color my roots and I will use almond oil or a deep conditioner (on dry hair) on the ends of my hair to keep color from grabbing. I massage the color into the whole head of hair the last 5 - 10 minutes, usually not leaving it on a full 10 minutes. Good luck!

Tina Marie - sounds like you’re in good shape as long as you have a good inventory of your product. Our salon closed the day after we had an appointment. Our stylist lives right by us and did a haircut at our house. I would consider doing that again at the point DH’s hair is badly in need of a cut. I don’t care since I’m not going anywhere but he will hopefully be going into work again after the two week moratorium.

Coloring your roots isn't surgery! Purchase a temporary color if you are concerned about a hideous mistake and follow directions. As an alternative, some hairdressers ae offering a root touch up kit with simple instructions. Have them on speed dial to assist.

The main thing about hair coloring is that almost all color will be much, much darker than the picture. If you want a light medium brown, go for a super light blonde hair color. Do a sample test too. I've colored my hair for years and it looks great, or at least I get compliments from complete strangers about my hair pretty much all the time and am told it is beautiful.

I use this developer and this hair color and mix two shades together. Equal amounts haircolor and developer. I leave it on for an hour at the roots then shampoo. I also do hightlights (a different product) once or twice a year and occasionally a streak here and there.

Thank goodness I won’t be going anywhere besides the grocery store. If I decide to do a ‘social distancing’ run with friends I can wear a ball cap and I may need to wear it to the grocery store as well. I’ve had my dark brown hair colored for decades and get it cut every 4 weeks. My short cut will be pretty shaggy in a couple weeks. I have an old box of Root Rescue that is probably expired but I may try using it. My hairdresser does a great job on color so I have no intention of growing out the gray so I will just tough it out.
