How would I turn a 3 bedroom into a 4 bedroom?
Comments (29)I know you will hate me for this, but please understand my view point. I am an old house LOVER! I also spent twenty years as a banker trying to talk people into understanding that their future home purchase had to be about love....and practicality. When you are in love with a house you think that the fact that it slapped around the last owners was likely because they were bad owners...they probably deserved it because they didn't do the maintenance you would do to keep it in check. You justify the little issues like the third eye as something minor instead of realizing that a third eye is not actually a normal thing and will require some seriously expensive custom lenses. You turn a wet basement into a couple puddles.... Ten years,..no lets make it five if you get the house....if you find that my pessimistic attitude was totally incorrect and your home turned out to be perfect beyond compare...please tell me I am wrong so I can learn a lesson. But if on the other hand my gazillion years of trying to make people understand that they should buy a home they love....but should equally involve their brains and heart in the equation turns out to make some sense in your potential chris brown like situation.....well be sure to share that valuable experience as well so that others can learn from you...and make light of your experience because "that will never happen to them". I tried to buy the egg and I farm as a young wife ohhhhh so many years ago thinking that a house with walls falling down and a tree growing in the living room just needed our tender and inexperienced care to bring it back.....the bank laughed...thank god!...See MoreNeed ideas for child’s bedroom!
Comments (12)I did this rather fast. My thought was he's graduating on to a big boy bed, but I personally would not want to over do this stage as you will need to add/eliminate in a handful of years vs. change it completely. The, "planets" in the corner are from Party City (11.00) and are named BLAST OFF PLANET LANTERNS. I would buy two sets and make them a pinch closer together than what I captured from their site using a fine clear like fishing line and if the ceiling is white a clear or white thumb tack. Vary the heights and as I recall the largest is 16" in diameter so if you purchase 2 sets you can use another couple to make it nice in the corner of the room where maybe a bean bag and a storage area with things he might want to play with are beneath them. Either way I think hanging them in the room is very fun and colorful and plays well with the comforter even if there is not room to add a piece with some storage as shown and a bean bag below in the corner. A child size bean bag is easy to find and little kids love them. I do like the stripe black out curtains... you may thing they are busy? As for sheets... I'd just do a solid using a color from the comforter as more stars or galaxy type things would be too much. The decal on the wall above the bed is very nice for his graduating to the big bed. You can pick your colors and it's from Etsy. I was leaning toward yellow things due to the gray walls. I jotted down the name of the maker if you are interested. The little rocket next to the bed is a lava lamp...no, not a lot of light, but not sure how he is with the dark and one can easily sleep with it on and so thought of that...there are other ones with shades with a motif similar to space out there though. I'm not sure if there is a ceiling light in the room? All in all, I think with the planets at varying heights and a pinch closer together and maybe 7 of them (?) depending on the size of the room... either way, putting them a pinch closer together varying heights you might want another 2 if you like them and the corner can accommodate or maybe a large single 16" in a different spot. I didn't select a rug for under the bed as I didn't know if you needed such. Just some thoughts for you to consider and all very reasonably done too. Apologies it's not to scale, but it was for you to see them all together. Talk later and if you hate something, that's ok... just say what you might prefer... Best, Porter...See Morebedroom design dilemma
Comments (3)in looking at just the one wall with the blue tape, I think it will look great, it's not too crowded. heres a few rooms to show a similar layout. you will need to get substantial lamps to go on each side table and you might consider mirrors above the side tables or some art on each side to make the two sides a bit taller to help with scale of the tall headboard. it can look great....See MoreTurn child’s bedroom into an office
Comments (20)Thank you so much for all the responses. I had no idea how supportive this community would be. Room design is extremely daunting to me. I just don’t have a knack for me. The room is small. It’s 11x11, has an attached bathroom. Ideally I would love for this to be a cute office that could double as a guest room, if needed. My 16 year old daughter has moved to a bigger room. My oldest son has moved out. My husband is not concerned with the background; of course, I am. He’s a prosecutor and has to “appear” in court. It’s not clear when courts will be back in person. His office is still mostly telecommuting. I’m not sure why I care so much that his background looking professional. Perhaps I really just want to change this room. I’ve been very spoiled in my life and never painted a room myself. My husband has, but doesn’t love the idea of giving up a weekend day(s) to paint a room he has no problem with. (That’s why I’m hopeful I can leave the pink walls.) But my husband would help me paint it if I ask him. I have a small physical issue (with my arms and chest) that makes me feel intimidated to paint, but maybe it’s time for me to try. There is a custom made bed and desk that are only a few years old. Made when my daughter said she would never leave that room. As you can see, the desk does not really have enough workspace for a professional. That’s because it was designed for a kid who had a small room and did her homework at the kitchen table. I can move the bed out but was hopeful I could spruce it up a bit (like the pictures above) and leave it..... but the headboard gives me pause. There is also an antique walnut dresser but I think that can stay(?) I can force myself to remove the glider, to which I do have sentimental attachment....See MoreJAN MOYER
