Help! Contractor messed up staining the stairs treads
Comments (8)The labor for staining will probably be less than ordering somewhere between 6 and 14 more of the stair nosings. Right now is actually a great time to go out and find someone to stain them. You might be able to get in on the side-job-because-my-kids-want-bulbous-plastic-yard-toys pricing. A small job like this that can be worked into down days and empty time slots can get you a good price, especially close to Christmas. The problem with using the remaining flooring is the fact that you can't just slap it on top of your current treads. The floor is either 3/8" or 1/2" - so your first tread would be a noticeably bigger step. To be done right you have to lower every riser by 3/8" or 1/2" - you might be able to cheese it and only take a little bit off the bottom 3-6 risers so that it blends in, but it will be expensive to do all that, unless your contractor will do the labor for free....See MoreTile contractors messed up grout lines
Comments (26)My dad did put cement board behind the tile before they laid it You hired a hack, this was your first warning flag. Never do I tile any substrate I didnt install myself. Not even for GC's Most all tile pro's will insist on taking everything from the studs or they will pass on the project. When you find handymen that are willing to engage in partial projects be warned. They will also likely come in at a very attractive pricepoint. A properly prepped waterproof tiled tub surround and subway install such as you have should be starting around $35/sq plus actual tile cost. How did you find the handyman and what did you pay? what does your contract say about industry standards to be followed?...See MoreSome things are looking up and sone are total mess
Comments (9)The large container with minis looks great---as do the larger containers. What kind of rectangular containers are they? What media do you use for the hosta in them? How would you overwinter them?...See MoreAm I overthinking it or did I mess up? Need some insight please.
Comments (130)I love the house color with the stone. I do agree that the shutters can go, maybe just “beef” up the trim a little so the windows look finished. The white trim isn’t awful but I would live in the house for a year and then decide..black trim could look nice with the other colors you have. Front door colors are a matter of taste. If you have a lot of green landscaping you may want to pull a shade of that to your door. If you have a particular color landscape, flowering shrubs and plants in a color you love,, you could pick a shade of the flowering plants to put on your door. I built my house a year ago. I have HardyPlank siding in Deep ocean blue, black trim , black standing seam metal roof and a chartreuse front door. I like to use plants (in planters and pots) around the front of the house that pick up the front door color. I get a lot of compliments on the color combinations and especially on the front door color. You are still looking at a building lot. Things will look much different when you have some landscaping, even if it’s just some bushes the builder puts in. Look at landscaping designs on Houzz, in magazines and Pinterest . You will see things much differently after living in you house for awhile. Take your time making decisions, your perfect home will come in time....See MoreRelated Professionals
