HAVE: I hope I'm not too late to be posting a trade list...
Comments (4)Hey, I have red hollyhocks, and mexican hats to trade. Don't have black hollyhocks, but have some other colours as well. Check out my trade list to see if anything else appeals to you :) I'd love to trade for the heirloom pink frilly poppies, Salvia "St Johns" and Snapdragons. My email is through my member page, please email me and let me know what you think . . . ?...See MoreIn-progress pics- I know I am late posting them :)
Comments (20)pirula I am so jealous. The only wall to wall we have in my house is on those darn basement stairs. Ours, unfortunately, have aesbestos tile over plywood. Those won't be coming up as long as I live here! So it will be carpet for me :(. We have a good quality wtw runner on our regular stairs that was free (my parents put really good wtw in one room there house and there was enough to do the stair runner with the leftovers) and will stay until we decide to refinish the stairs (not looking forward to THAT now that I know how much dust it creates). I would love to have a painted runner, but with 2 kiddos and a lab, someone would be slipping all the time... staceyneil- the ceiling is clear pine (as opposed to knotty). It only cost about $500 for the material, and the labor was pretty darn cheap since it didn't take long to put up. In the end it comes in slightly cheaper then plain old drywall! And I love it! It will be painted Farrow&Ball White Tie. The color you see on the island is just the Hazelnut color of my mom's kitchen. We are using some leftovers from their install to cut costs (it is all getting painted anyway) and also some salvage as well. The kitchen portion of our hardwoods are salvage, whereas the rest of the floor is original....See MoreAm I too late for planting creeping phlox?
Comments (26)"My point was just to demur from the suggestion made above that if a plant is in the "nursery" it is time to plant it..." Home Depot and other mass merchandisers or home improvements stores are NOT nurseries - they are only big stores that happen to sell a few plants out of a thousand other products :-) I would never consider what they offer at any time of year as seasonally appropriate or even properly winter hardy for the area!! There is a huge difference between these sorts of outlets and a real plant nursery. A proper nursery most often will sell things appropriately hardy for the location as well as seasonally ready to plant. They make their living selling plants - not paint or nails or BBQ's - and if they are selling plants that fail for the area, they won't be in business very long....See MoreAm I too late now?
Comments (5)go for it .... its a lot easier than messing with pots over winter .... in my MI.. with ground freeze... heave would be an issue ... not sure how that applies to your area ... to be safe .. plant them ... and then cover them with some mulch or ground leaves .... after they are fully dormant ..... avoiding the exact crown itself ... the idea is to keep the soil around it from warming too much ,... during warm spells in winter .... lets be realistic ... fall just started a week ago ... winter doesnt really start until xmas week ... so you have plenty of time ... for the plant to settle in ... the soil to settle.. and to get ready for winter ... i would bare root and plant in native soil .... if you have some tiny minis.. i would defer to others on those ... ken...See Moregrsparty
