I wouldn't put fabric over the nightstands. I would probably look for a (patterned) comforter and shams that have a little bit of brown in them, fold the comforter at the bottom and place the shams in front of the current shams. This would break up all the white. What kind of patterns are you drawn to?

A few more pics of the rest of the room might be helpful and possibly draw more responses.

the nightstands won't stay empty-they'll have lamps, maybe books, maybe small vase with flowers, or whatever makes you happy without taking too much space. you can even lean some artwork on them.

you'll have an art over your bed as far as I understood

you can put a rectangular or even a bolster decorative pillow there..they're comfy and useful even though they're decorative

you can put a throw there too, same as pilllow if you prefer matching closely, or totally different

as in this pic for example

you can always paint white walls too, if so inclined, makes white look special and amazing

but white on white, with wood and some other textures thrown in, is a great look too

matter of your preference

of course make space for proper storage of things that can be stored and hidden, that plays a huge role in how the room feels

You could use this product to put on top of the night stands which will add great charm and, If you have enough left over, make an art installation for a wall piece. There are many site for this product, look at the different type of woods. It's so believable. night stand improvement

No cant paint the room as it was already painted white recently and hubby will say NO! He loves the nightstands. They are a piano finish too which i dont like. I think i will get a piece of fabric rectangular for both nightstands since highboy is rectangular in a blue print then blue throw pillows square for starters. ill get pic of art to show to you guys. i have another table lamp that matches that lamp for other table. I do have a red and white print old old quilt i love that great grandma made i could put at end of the bed.

I think the night stands are fine. You could try a couple of shallow wooden trays for the top of them, but I wouldn't drape fabric on top. You have a great dresser, though it looks a bit too close to your night stand. Since your headboard is low, I would consider not using shams. Just lay your pillow(s) flat on the bed.

Why don't you just get some lamps for the tables and some objects to add color to them. You could also just paint the wall behind the bed to add color to that side of the room. I like the tables and I think you can lesson some of the white with the above suggestions and not try to hide the table under fabric,

Hmm i like the idea of the wooden trays. The room is small so no choice but to have the nightstand so close to the highboy dresser. Im going to play around with ideas take pics and ill show you all. My decorator suggested the small rectangular piece of fabric on the nightstands. the headboard is low do to it being from a 1950's bed that only had one mattress.

Fire your decorator, (suggested putting a piece of fabric on top of nightstands-what...like a placemat?), then absorb some of the very good opinions you will recieve here. BTW, really like your nightstands, add a matching lamp to each one?

No like a runner I have 2 matching lamps for both

What if i got that headboard since ours hardly shows?

I wasn't suggesting a new headboard, just a different way to dress/makeup the bed. I will add that, if you read in bed, something taller would be more comfortable.

I love my bedspread but i guess i could change it. Im not a comforter or duvet person.

I personally wouldn't change the bed covering that you love when there are so many other options. I really don't think a colorful bedspread is the answer anyway. The problem is the massive wall of white behind the bed with nothing to break up the space.

A great big square art piece in colors that you love for over the bed. Put your woodcut somewhere else in the room (over the dresser?)

I'm no decorator but I was going to suggest a place mat if sized to fit nicely on top or napkin in a fabric you love on the diamond direction for the top of the nightstands Haaha Too funny. Oh well, that might help to break up the piano finish you say you do not like.

sumac Interesting i read somewhere have a print or painting of 2 birds in a bedroom is good feng shui and good for the love department so maybe i can look for a really colorful one of birds. *L* And put the woodcut over the other dresser across from bed.

Okay i have 2 red and white print quilts i think my great grandmother may have made. I think i may put one of them at the end of the bed for decoration. Im sure they are full of dust mites though.

I hope you'll be able to show us your progress. Using something thar your great grandmother probably made herself-few things can hold more significance, in my opinion. It's something so unique to have and use. My great grandmother whom I never met..I'd be so happy to have something of hers. Well I do have something of hers, but all immaterial)) And material things, something you can touch..it doesn't come instead of course, but it does have deep meaning.

as for the dust, maybe can be cleaned very carefully? I know I wouldn't take anything precious to our dry cleaners who somehow ruined already three of my dresses/blouses..but you might know somebody who knows what he does, or at least can give you good advice.
