I have both and love them both, to me JCs blooms are more petal packed, in more of that antique rosette style bloom, and so the petals are smaller just because there are more of them. HGL has an antique shape to it as well, but more "fluffy" for lack of a better term & with larger & slightly less petals. For me HGL has more solitary blooms where as JC blooms more in clusters, since JC is a floribunda & HGL has been deemed a grandiflora, that makes sense. Also, JCs blooms don't fade as quickly for me as those of HGL, which can almost look bi-color in my garden because the tips of the petals go so distinctly white but stay yellow in the center, I notice yours doesn't look like that so maybe that won't apply to you, my HGL is in full sun...but so is JC... so that may or may not be your experience depending on your sun exposure. JCs blooms start out slightly more golden tone than HGL, and when they do fade after a couple of days, the whole flower fades at the same time, not tips first like my HGL. Also, HGL is much less fragrant than JC in my garden. Both of them are amazing at producing flowers, they are two of my best bloomers! Even in the summer heat! I hope this gives you some useful info! I was re-watching that delightful movie, Julie and Julia, and I noticed that Julia Childs actually did use pegboard as a backsplash like the first picture I posted to store her kitchen tools. She famously used pegboard to store her pots and pans on a wall away from the splatter of a sink or stove. But, she also uses it on two different walls to hold her kitchen tools even though that pegboard is right next to her stove and oven. She didn't use pegboard by the sink because with those windows there was no room for it. This is a similar picture of Julia's kitchen that was posted before, but hopefully its clearer in this picture that there's a sheet of pegboard to the left of the oven to store her kitchen tools and gadgets. And, on a different wall, next to the stove, she uses pegboard again to hold her whisks and smaller pots. She must have been a big fan of pegboard because she used that quite often in her own home kitchen and the TV kitchen studio she used to film the French Chef. I couldn't find a picture of her TV kitchen, but in the movie it looked like she used pegboard all around the kitchen. Was pegboard in the kitchen just more popular back then because it was also used in Avis DeVota's kitchen too in the movie? (I thought it was an interesting storytelling device to combine Julia Child's and Julie Powell's stories into one movie, but I would have preferred it if they had ditched Powell's story and focused more on Julia Child's and Avis Devota's friendship instead.)

I went with a girlfriend becaue DH was out of town but I am definitely going again with him! BTW, I haven't read Julie and Julia either but I can strongly recommend My Life in France. Judy, ah yes, the butter. I couldn't believe how much we used too, for the entire meal. The chicken alone is sauteed in one stick of butter, and when you make the sauce from the drippings (which of course has rich and lovely egg yolks), Julia suggests you add two to three tablepsoons of additional butter to the sauce! LOVE the fact that Julia and Paul both lived to a ripe old age. I also love some of her thoughts on food: "Eat well and drink well," says Julia Child, "everything in moderation -- and never snack." And this on butter: "If you're afraid of butter, as many people are nowadays," she said in one of her more recent television shows, "Just put in cream!" she proclaimed, with a twinkle in her eye. Apprently she believd that the secret to a long and happy lfe, along with the moderation, was red meat and gin. My kind of gal! :-) Regardless of what and how you eat, it really does make you realise that the act of sharing good food is really one of life's great pleasures. As she said..."Dining with one's friends and beloved family is certainly one of life's primal and most innocent delights, one that is both soul-satisfying and eternal." Bon appetit to that! Eliz
