Winter time - This time of year I don't know about making life better, but I do try to appreciate the little things that can make a day better, and say Thank You (maybe not out loud) The silly chickadee bringing a smile with it's antics in a shrub by my carport I would have missed if I hadn't chosen just that moment to take out the garbage- that baby in the back of a grocery cart who makes eye contact and gives a big grin for no reason other than wanting a smile back...all thank yous. Today, a bigger one. I've been arguing (negotiating) with the IRS since last May over what they said was a deficit in our 2003 taxes. Audit by mail, which meant countless phone calls, faxes, copies mailed, letters of explanation, and about every 6 weeks I'd get another bill where they were still unconvinced, penalties and interest accruing to about $4000 total. This morning, finally, a letter - "We are pleased to tell you we did not make any changes to the tax reported on your return." I almost feel like my honor has been restored, I'm not a deadbeat or a cheat. And for all my effort, I may just buy myself some extravagant little thing :)

How big is your TV and what size room is it in?

Two TVs here: 21" in a bedroom and 15" in the kitchen, both tube-type, not f/s. Not used much. No cable or satellite available in the area, and needless to say no high speed phone connection. I'm on this forum usually at 16,400 kbs, occasionally as slow as at 9,600, so I hate it when someone loads heavy pics in their posts. Before the change to digital TV, we got 4 channels (big 3 plus, plus PBS) year-round, though somewhat woozle-ly at times. Since the switch we can get same 3 main ones, three channels of PBS, Fox and couple of outdoor sports channels, but only in the late Fall through mid Spring. So at this time of year I'm largely TV-less, despite extravagant antenna and converter box set-ups. I think the switch was designed to boost cable and dish companies' revenues and completely ignored what it might do to people who for one reason or another relied on over-the-air broadcast TV. However, after a period of adjustment when it felt weird not to have even TV news available, we've adjusted pretty well. Once the seasons change and we can get TV again in Nov., we go on a two-week TV binge, but then revert back to "normal". It's interesting how necessary it must seem to the majority of posters. I feel sure some of the readers here are incredulous that I can live so unplugged, and so contentedly. Anyone seen a big difference in drying time w/ your HE washer?

Sandy - good point! I hate drying things absolutely bone dry too. There's a certain dryness level I like. You can feel a little moisture in the clothes but not so much that you're afraid to fold them and put them in the cupboard/drawer etc without fear of them not drying the rest of the way. So folks who want things bone dry will have a somewhat longer drying time. Those times I posted for mine are not bone dry - but a little less than that. I do know for a FACT that these HE Front Load washers can handle much more than the dryer can as far as load size (at least in my experience.) I can tell a huge difference in viewing the tumbling action in the dryer if I had a decent sized load in the washer; when it's in the dryer, it doesn't tumble as well and looks overloaded to me (even though it wasn't overloaded in the washer) and my dryer is 7 cu ft. If I have a normal load in the washer that isn't overly large, it seems like it gets cupboard dry in 35 to 40 min's. I should probably break the loads up when I feel they are too large for the dryer but I don't. I just don't let them get bone dry to minimize wrinkling.

Oh jeez! I'm sorry to hear this Anne. He knows you are right but doesn't want you to be..... My brother was like this. I told him for nearly two years he was diabetic and at times he would get very angry with me with his denials. He was having problems with his teeth and didn't go to the doctor for diabetes tests until the oral surgeon refused to work on him. When he made the announcement 'I have diabetes' at a family party he got mad because me and three sisters looked at him and said, 'I knew that'.... He'll learn what he can and can't do. Unfortunately he'll have to learn it on his own and when he's diagnosed you will have to decide to pretend to be surprised and help him OR say 'I told you so' and help him. Good luck. Omg if I was Alex I would definitely put Elana on slop for lying to her and causing her to have to go through that horrible punishment. Elana is just evil and will flip flop like a fish out of water.

Alex has such a good disposition and is a good person.

I am worried about Jason! He ate the Lobster and his entire face was swollen up his lips were all puffy and he was about to puke and he needed medical attention but production never did or said anything. I hope he is OK. Those kinds of reactions are very serious.

Paul needs to be on high alert! Plotting is going on.

The punishment will be shown on the show so I can't tell you about it or it would be a spoiler.

It was the veto comp/results which CBS will air Wednesday. BBAD is a few days ahead. Some houseguests got rewards, while others ended up with a punishment. One punishment was the traditional dreaded unitard. I hate to give anymore spoilers for those that do not watch BBAD or read the feeds. It's worth watching the youtube videos as Raven has suggested, especially Alex's. Doubtful CBS will show the full extent.

Here's my assessment of the players....

Raven - I'm almost afraid to type her name, she might get bruised or break a bone! Hypochondriac, liar, drama queen, little self-worth.

Matt - what a good summer for this 14 y/o and his raging hormones! Matt = boring.

Mark - such low esteem. Indecisive flip flopper. Destined to be mistreated by women the rest of his life. I think Mark is kinder and more intelligent than it shows on bb.

Elena - a waste of time to write anything about her.

Josh - cry baby that can dish it out but can't take it. Quick to apologize and just as quick to take it back. Being manipulated by Christmas. Being used by Paul and Alex to do their dirty work (bullying Mark)

Christmas - Has dipped her toes in another woman's hot tub. Slimy person... much more than what you see on CBS. She's really mean to Mark because he's the only male in the house that can't give it back better than she can. IMO, she sits right next to Elena on the nasty couch.

Jason - Geez, dude, don't you know your wife is watching your eyes following Alex? Looking her up and down, following her around? Hopefully a little couples counseling is all they'll need at this point. Otherwise, he's a tattletale. It pays to keep things to yourself sometimes.

Kevin - I retract my support for Kevin. He's finally realizing what the outside world is going to be thinking. A lot of people are beginning to believe Kevin is a super fan. If so, he's not very good at game play. Talk about playing ALL sides and letting all your housemates know it!

Alex - she gets on my nerves. Isn't she suppose to be almost 30? Or is it 13? I don't really think she's a good gamer, just aligned with the right person. Her laugh grates on me.

Paul - The only one playing a good game. Still, I'm not in love. I bet he's the head honcho in his little group of friends and has them fetch and carry for him. He has a sweet side but a mean streak to go with it.

Cody ??? Well, how sweet he treated Jessica! But wait until they break up... he's going to give her hell. She'll give it back, though. Looks like he's going home this week but if not, I can root for Cody almost as much as anyone else at this point.

Well, here's the shocker... I'm going to root for Mark. I'm beginning to feel very sorry for him. Maybe the money will help him.
