Oh, my! Those do sound...interesting. All I have to contribute is traditional chumus (garbanzo beans, techinah, lemon and garlic) with good honey, mesquite or clover.

Not sure whether you want mundane or weird (or both), but Plllog's suggestion reminds me of a wrap I make with a flour tortilla (or lavash) spread with hummus and then tuna or salmon salad on top of that and then rolled up, with or without lettuce or sprouts. To me it is mundane, but someone else may think it is weird.

As for the purely mundane, in Mexico it is common to use a bean spread on a bolillo to make a torta (usually with ham or turkey). They use this instead of mayonnaise or other condiments. I thought it was weird at first, but I really like it.

It's hard to beat a toasted peanut butter sandwich with brown sugar and sliced bananas. A toaster oven is a necessity to make these.

I wouldn't make a meal of it, but I love hot roast beef gravy on cold cottage cheese.

My brother loves peanut butter/thinly-sliced raw garlic sandwiches. I know many who like apple slices with peanut butter. Neither appeals to me. Peanut butter and jelly or banana or chocolate for me. (Sometimes I nuke a few chocolate chips with peanut butter for a few seconds and eat with a spoon.) And not on celery either! But celery dipped in jalapeño pimento cheese is amazing.

Back when my husband was alive and being the "big cheese" people would send in the most amazing recipes (!!!!). I sometimes took it upon myself to make samples....just for curiosity sake.
One that was memorable was equal parts peanut butter and blue cheese and a dash of garlic salt and worchestershire.
It was not as bad as it sounds....but I didn't file the recipe!

Lars' post reminds me I like to make sushi, with thin strips of roast beef in a bit of A1 steak sauce and slivers of long green onion as the filling in the centre.

I don't want the onion, but I eat peanut butter and Miracle Whip sandwiches occasionally. My youngest daughter likes creamed corn over mashed potatoes in lieu of gravy and my brother puts sugar on spaghetti. Of course, he puts sugar on everything.

I never thought this was odd but my then new husband was aghast: strawberry jelly IN grilled cheese sandwiches. Also yummy with orange marmalade.

Morz8, when I was in college, a group of friends would frequent a nearby diner where we'd all order scoops of cottage cheese topped with beef gravy. I actually liked it . I couldn't abide the ubiquitous cottage cheese and canned peaches that was popular at the time. It's been many years since I thought of that particular combo. Sounds weird but was actually very tasty. So much better than cottage cheese and fruit.

I make tuna salad with medium salsa instead of mayo. Have farmers cheese, chopped fresh tomato and gucamole mixed together for breakfast.

I haven't had cottage cheese and gravy, but add some fried potatoes and you have something like putine. :)

Here is a mundane combination:

I love salt and vinegar potato chips but know they are bad for you. I found an online recipe. Parboil potato slices in salty vinegar water; let them rest in the liquid; drain and dry, then bake or fry in oil. Don't skimp on the vinegar and salt and you won't have to add any when they are done. You can save the boiling liquid in fridge for your next batch.

DH stirs mayonnaise into his pinto beans. It probably doesn't taste as disgusting as it sounds but I've never been tempted to try it.

Sriracha on ice cream.

Yes I'm kidding. I used to make beer shakes, those were good.

On another thread someone mentioned drizzling honey on pizza. That sounded weird but interesting enough to temp me to try.

If you want to enhance the flavor of chocolate, add a pinch of cayenne. This makes the chocolate flavor more intense.

Nothing weird about green tea ice cream - the English have been putting milk or cream in their tea for years, and so to freeze it also makes sense. I'm not English, and so I don't do this. It may seem weird to the Chinese or Japanese, however, as I do not think that they add anything to tea when they drink it. My sister asked for some sugar for her tea at a Japanese restaurant when she was visiting me, and they brought her one teaspoon of sugar.

What about mayonnaise with raw fish? (sushi)?

Macaroni in chili?. Chili mac - a way my family stretched the food budget to feed 6 kids.

Probably not that weird, since it is a menu item at the sports bar close to us, but not something I would order either. A grilled cheese sandwich stuffed with mac & cheese. (there was a layer of cheese plus the mac & cheese).

Chocolate sprinkles by accident instead of crushed red pepper on pizza, not so good.

FOAS, it looks like you need new glasses! I think I could handle garlic powder on French toast better.

I thought macaroni in chili was a very common dish - definitely fits into the mundane category, I think. I've had it several times (my sister used to make it), but I've not made it myself. I'm more likely to use wide Dutch egg noodles instead of macaroni. Of course in Texas, chili does not contain beans. However, beans with pasta in Italy is known as Pasta e Fagioli, which I do like.

If I put mayo on sushi, I mix it with wasabi first.

I used to make savory French toast! With herbs and garlic. But it sounds like Sam used a LOT more garlic powder. :) You definitely deserve the great mom acting award!

The mayo on sushi is usually the Japanese kewpie mayonnaise, which is sharper and spicier than regular. It's good. Not weird. Think about all the sauces people regularly put on cooked fish. Yolks + fats and acid. Not so different. Mayo is at least non-dairy. :) Although so many fish dishes have butter, cream and/or cheese, I don't know where the whole no dairy with fish rule comes from. I do think regular Hellman's or similar might be unusual. :)

I think there's a difference between pasta in the chili, like in soup, soaking up the liquid, and chili mac which is pasta with chili in place of sauce. The latter is mundane, but the former not so much.

So, something that doesn't really go well, but I still like, is bananas with soft cheese. Or sriracha. Or both.

Can't begin to put into words what that tasted like, but it looked pretty.

I had never heard of putting macaroni in chili until I moved to Wisconsin. Quite common here and quite disgusting. I do not want slimy noodles in my chili. Beans, yes. Pinto beans or Anasazi beans but not kidney beans. As DSI says when he encounters chili w/ macaroni, "That's NOT chili; that's goulash!"

One good trick that I learned in Wisconsin is stirring good, home grown vine ripe tomatoes into macaroni salad. Wonderful. And a trick I picked up in Illinois is stirring good fresh tomatoes into hot macaroni & cheese. (You don't want the tomatoes to cook.)

A maybe weird combo that I like is salsa on baked potato. Delicious.

Cilantro, here in Michigan macaroni in tomatoes would be goulash too, I think the macaroni with chili is kind of an Ohio thing, part of the "5 way" chili. I do like beans in my chili, though, and I remember making the very delicious chili recipe from RiverRat and thinking "it needs beans, or rice, or some kind of carb"!

FOAS, Melly once sent me some chocolate sprinkles from the Netherlands, there they put them on toast for breakfast. My kids LOVED that idea. Pizza? Um, not so much, LOL.

Plllog, Elery puts Sriracha on his eggs in the morning, and on pretty much everything else all day long. He did have a weird breakfast this morning, but he makes an omelette out of pretty much anything in the fridge. This morning it was kim chi, leftover taco filling and beet greens. Yeah. With Sriracha over the top of the omelette.

LOL! Annie, that sounds good to me! especially if the beet greens were sautéed first. :) I actually prefer chili sauce to sriracha (i.e., no sugar) for most real food, but have found that sriracha works really well as a condiment because it's not runny and the bit of sweet works similarly to that in ketchup as a flavor enhancer (though I know you don't care for ketchup, so just sayin'). Kimchi is great on tacos, as are greens, so it's no surprise that it all works in an omelette. Omelette, pizza, sandwich...they're all the same for accommodating and uniting disparate flavors (but with pizza, you have to tailor the sauce/cheese to go with).

Since goulash (as in Hungarian) is meat stew optionally served with noodles, I get calling the chili with macaroni goulash. For mac and tomatoes it's a new one on me though. We'd just call it pomodoro.

Chicken livers with mushrooms in gravy, over scrambled eggs. Mom would make this, and I like it, but it seems weird now.

FOAS, this might make you laugh. One place I used to work we sold (among other things) meat pies. Here meat pies as fast food are as common as hot dogs in the US, it's essentially a double crust hand size pie filled with stewed beef or similar. Most people would put ketchup on them- one popular technique is to lift the lid a little (or make a hole in the top) and squeeze the ketchup in under the lid- but I digress.

So, we also sold little squeezable sachet thingies of ketchup, right by the till where you pay for your purchases. But every so often a customer would walk over to the espresso machine, grab the large squeeze bottle parked next to it- and squeeze a big dollop of chocolate syrup over their pie. :-D The chocolate syrup was for making hot chocolate. Oh how we laughed.

M&M Pizza. Best thing I've ever tasted. Ok not really but it was pretty good. I made a regular pizza, no meat just dough, sauce and cheese. Baked it, a few minutes before it was done, topped if with M&Ms and popped it in the oven to Melt. I mean, it was pretty good.....

and then for snacks when there's nothing to eat I eat potato chips and deli chicken.
