Tub/shower combo & 2 sinks or Separate Tub & Shower & 1 sink
Comments (7)Is there any way to run plumbing to the separate vanity area to make it into a sink? We are doing a gut remodel of our bathroom and we were able to cram in the shower, 5'6" claw foot tub, toilet and two sinks (on adjacent walls though, not next to each other) in a slightly less than 10'x11' space including sloped ceilings and a couple of windows. Here is an older version of our plan for the bathroom but shows the two sinks. The one next to the tub is a console sink (on chrome legs) so very open and the tub is now a double ended tub with plumbing in the middle. Here is a newer plan showing a tile layout I was messing with and the right tub. It also shows a bump out for a knee wall where the new drain is going to run - it turns out there was steel angle along that wall and we could not run the drain line under it so had to go through. It's more of a challenge to get the water there but wasn't impossible....See MoreTub/shower combo using 5' spa/whirlpool/soaker tub
Comments (3)You can get a 5' "soaker" tub with wider stance and deeper seat for about $200. For a 5' jacuzzi (check out the one fifth on the list), it'll run you about $800. Both take only a couple of inches either direction than a "standard size" tub....See MoreMaster bath layout - enough space between tub and shower?
Comments (16)I"m short on time, but wanted to post something that's been swirling in my brain. I think walk in closets are lovely if you have the space, but I just don't think you have the space; I'm pretty confident that the minimum recommended width of a closet is 5'. How about a walk- through closet to your bathroom? My guesstimate is that you could have 6' wide, reach in closets on either side of a 42" hallway. I've seen lots of pictures with a beautiful tub centered under a window and flanked by vanities, so I appreciate that look might be a priority to you. I just moved all that over to the other window. I tucked the toilet and shower around the corner. Depending on the location of the window, you might be able to have a pocket door, but if not, a wall would add a lot of privacy (avoid seeing the reflection of someone on the toilet from the entrance or the rest of the bathroom.) Anyhoo. Here's a rough drawing. If aging in place is a concern, I'd put the shower and toilet on the exterior or bedroom wall, so you have the option of creating a quicker route to the toilet (through the closet wall) in the future....See MoreMaster bath Tub or no tub
Comments (9)The overwhelming majority of demographics for your complex would prefer a great shower versus a mediocre tub/shower. Aging people who want to age in place need a shower - and as large as possible because stepping over a tub becomes increasingly problematic. Design with both function (bench and as many grab bars as possible to be reachable anywhere in the shower). While many older people are nimble up to a certain point, there are also periods when they might not be able to bathe and among my senior friends many have given up baths even if they previously enjoyed them because of difficulty of getting up from the tub. While you might lose a buyer who absolutely demands a tub in the master, the greater number will appreciate a great shower. And, if someone really wants a tub experience as critical, chances are they would prefer a larger soaking experience versus a tub/shower combo which doesn't provide the best experience for bathing or showering....See MoreRachel Lee
