Comments (3)What's a Sunquat? My son who lives in Tampa bought me a Honeybelle orange tree from there last year. My pink grapefruit tree is 27 years old-we put in in when we moved here. Lately it doesn't look so good although I've fertilized and given micronutrients. I think Wilma shifted it and it's just be downhill. Anyway if you or someone can recommend grapefruit, and tangerine varieties, I might send my son there again....See MoreIt has arrived..New Zealand Lemonade
Comments (83)Laura, you enabler you! ! :D The Giant Key Lime was one citrus I have seriously considered ordering. I have two Mexican Key Limes, a Kaffir, and a Bearss Lime currently, after I receive my next order from Harris, hopefully later this week, I still want to place an order later this fall with Four Winds for Santa Teresa Lemon and Bergamot Sour Orange etc.. My collection is increasing and I want to make sure I get the ones I have been coveting and that I have room for all of them come winter. After that, if they make it through the winter alright, and my hubby and I finish building another upcycled GH, I will possibly add a few more... Hobby, thank you for the concern about the soil settling and the roots showing. :) I actually filled the pots up just a bit under the rim so I would still have room to water without overflow. The pot on the right had more roots showing than I would like, so I did cover them up a bit more this morning after I watered. I don't mind having a few roots showing though. From what I researched and read, the Bearss Lemon cultivator was selected in a Grove in FL. The parent tree was planted in 1892, supposedly. Description: Is a fast growing tree, very productive, very fragrant blooms and bears an abundance of very juicy acidic fruit July through December. Tree is vigorous, thorny, and sensitive to cold. Bearss out produces both Eureka and Lisbon. The flavor is outstanding. Has up to six seeds per fruit. A true lemon. This lemon is grown in Brazil, much appreciated for its fragrance, . Most of the crop is eaten fresh, some is used for rind oil. I read a lot of positive reviews on the Bearss and heard the fruit has outstanding flavor and slightly larger than Eureka. Win Win for me!! Hobby, the Baboon Lemon would be a good one to add to your list also.. the leaves smell divine!! :)...See MoreHarris Shiranui mandarin (a/k/a Dekopon a/k/a Sumo)
Comments (17)Jenny - Can you please do me a favor when you have a moment and tell me in inches how big the pot is that the shiranui is in? I'm learning that not all 3 gal and 5 gal pots are the same size and I'm trying to plan out spacing and repotting. Also, now that I'm asking, is the ST from FW in a 4x9 pot? They advertise that their entry levels are always in 4x9, but neither tree I received from them was in that size. Thank you and that is such a beautiful tree!...See MoreIs this what a standard citrus plant looks like when shipped/sold
Comments (40)Denise - just checked my tags and the Eureka ("Semi-Dwarf") says " 10' - 15' at maturity". The Tango ("True Dwarf") says " 8' - 10' " and the Variegated Pink Lemon ("True Dwarf") says " 8' - 12' ". Interesting indeed!! I bought the Variegated Pink Lemon at the same time (2016) as its Eureka cousin but bought the Tango last summer (2017). Could be whoever their propagators are, selects whatever rootstock is known to be compatible and available in enough quantities (at the cheapest cost) at the time they are grafting, and that may vary from year to year or within a year. Not sure if they start their own seedlings for rootstock or get them wholesale from other sources. I know I've watched many of their youtube videos a few times and their flyovers of the nursery show acres and acres of trees under netting/shade cloth....See MoreSusanne Michigan Zone 5/6
