Toaster Oven versus Convection Microwave for reheating
Comments (8)I have a Sharp 930 microwave/convection oven and am gutting my kitchen. It has been in an oven cabinet with a wall oven. I will no longer have a wall oven, nor an oven cabinet. I would like to keep the Sharp, but have been told that it cannot be shelf mounted, that my only option is to keep it on the counter. Does anyone know for sure if and how it can be wall mounted? It is really to big for a countertop appliance and I might replace it with its new baby sibling, the Sharp microwave toaster oven. Thank for your help...See Morereplace MW & toaster oven with advantium or speed oven?
Comments (25)Thanks, pillog. The dimensions and storage suggestions are extremely helpful. As for the 27" vs. 30", I'd love to have a 30" but the problem is how to fit one in. I'm working around various obstacles (e.g., a chimney) and fixed features (e.g., unmovable doors and some unmovable walls) that limit what we can do with the space. On the other hand, I hadn't thought about what would happen if the 27" ovens die and replacements can't be found. The current ovens are decades old and still work fine, but I guess that's not likely to repeat itself, given the life expectancy of current appliances. It may be time to look at those plans again and see if there's a way to steal 3 inches......See MoreConvection Microwave v Speed Oven?
Comments (9)There is a LOT of variation in speed ovens. Microwave/convection combos make you choose one mode or the other. Speed ovens use both together. That's the minimal differentiation. Some rather expensive ones only have a few combo settings and nothing else to offer, and really don't so speed cooking well. Speed cooking is where you get a fairly conventional result by combining modes for a much faster cook time. Some, like the Advantium, have an additional heating element/system. Some have broilers. The broilers aren't like the honking blazing infrared broilers in high end ovens, but they're adequate for top heat. :) The good ones all do speed. That's why the name and the price. It's not really worth the money if you just want a microwave that can pretend to be a toaster oven. I'm not an expert, but in my experience, the speed settings give you cooked food, but the regular oven/timing are better for the flavors to come together, etc. Speed is for slotting a freshly cooked dinner between after school and evening activities, and stuff like that. Speed has also saved me when something went awry and I still needed to get the food out on time. If speed isn't your purpose, it sounds like you've already picked out and had endorsed something that will suit your needs....See MoreSpeed ovens, CSO, convection, microwave...oh my
Comments (6)We are currently building and are planning on getting a Wolf Convection Steam Oven and omitting the microwave all together. The steam oven is cool because it reheats food so it tastes like it did when it was first made, it can also defrost food pretty quickly. Both the steam portion and convection part of the oven cooks food super fast. I went to a Wolf showroom and had them do a demonstration. It was a lot of fun and learned a lot. They also do them online if you don’t want to go in person....See MoreBill Purcell
