Bermuda vs. crabgrass!
Comments (5)Get you some pr-emergence like Barricade or Dimension down for this season, then do proper maintenance this year on the Bermuda. The Bermuda should recover and get really thick and healthy. What height are you maintaining at? If you maintain the Bermuda too high it thins and allows weeds to invade. Keep it short, watered, and fed and it will form a dense carpet. Once you have really healthy Bermuda, weeds do not stand much of a chance. For weeds to cycle, they must reach maturity to develop seed heads. Keeping the Bermuda short, and you keep chopping the weeds heads off. That weakens them and prevent them from maturing. They eventually die off and that is the last you will see of them....See MoreKilling Crabgrass & Yellow Nutsedge in newly-seeded bermuda lawn
Comments (9)Baby Bermuda in Atlanta? Baby Bermuda is an exclusive product of Easton Sod farms located in OK. It is also a hybrid and there is no seed. How did you get it? Anyway crabgrass is easy to control with post-emergence products. But as stated you have to wait until the lawn is mature and has been mowed a few times. Otherwise you risk injuring the grass. FWIW you could paint it on, but if you are going to that much trouble, why not just pull it out to begin with and cast that demon back to he!! Nut Sedge is another issue and very difficult to control. Most of the post - emergence controls just makes it mad and the nut underneath the ground sends up three replacements for every one you spray. There are a couple of product out there like Manage and Sedge Hammer that are effective but very expensive....See MoreCrabgrass and Bermuda
Comments (1)You are certainly setting up for the battle of the titans... Crabgrass vs Bermuda vs St. Augustine.... The Victor will take all! It's going to be really hard to keep Bermuda out of SA -- about the best you can do is to water and fertilize and mow for SA... meaning... Not too much fertilizer Keep up with watering Mow high. This way, it will look like a St. Augustine lawn with some Bermuda in it rather than the other way around. The St. Augustine will spread fast this time of year... If you are concerned -- you can pull up some long sprigs from the SA and plant them out in the bare spots... Keep watered until they take hold. Comments (6)Bayer 'Lawn Weed and Crabgrass Killer' does a decent job of getting rid of crabgrass (among other weeds) It does state on the bottle that it 'may cause temporary yellowing or discoloring' with bermuda, but that a 'full recovery could be expected'. I sprayed some on my zoysia last week and its done a pretty good job getting the crabgrass. For heavy infestations they say a repeat spraying a few weeks later may be necessary. You can find it at Lowe's, or Home Depot. 34-0-0 isn't too bad and will definitely kick your bermuda into high gear, but you probably could stand to have some K, as well. Do you know your soil PH? If not, get a soil test done through UGA and your local county extension office. They'll give you the breakdown of what you're deficiencies are for P, and K. It'll help you make your fertilizer choices a lot easier. Chances are though that your soil is fairly high in P already and low in K. That being said, Shemin Nurseries in and around Atlanta sell ProScape fertilizers from Lebanon Corp. Their MESA technology for slow release nitrogen works very well. I use their 25-2-5 MESA blend and have been extremely satisfied with the results. You could also get ProScape fertilizers with some Dimension in it. That'll do a decent job of keeping new weeds from popping up. Good luck!...See Moreralph_zone8_nc
