Well, we have stuck it out with our GC and we're in the house
Comments (3)No! Before we left town DH gave them most of the substantial completion payment, but there is still a chunk remaining. And then we have a much bigger chunk in hold back that they'll get 30 days after substantial completion. This is a fire restoration project with an insurance settlement and a mortgage company in the middle, so we don't even have all the money in hand....See MoreMoni, you have captured my interest!
Comments (10)Jenn and I rode to the Oklahoma FreeWheel, and then rode FreeWheel together in 2012. I had gotten a divorce the year before. She was heading to a divorce. Well, all that was done, she met Curtis. I ride with Mel all the time, and Mel knows both Jenn and Curtis too. I found out, Jenn was getting married in August. She would not let anyone know more than that. I friended her son, and pumped him for info. I was planning on flying there. Mel got wind of it, and said, he wants to be a wedding crasher too. Thus, we drove down together, had a BLAST, crashed the wedding which was a BLAST, and had a BLAST on the way home. Curtis (groom) told me before Jenn came down, we were the BEST surprise we could ever have done for Jenn. More pictures will follow. For some reason, I could not post one today. I was out of town yesterday and most of today. Did not see this post till now. :) More to come Moni...See MoreWelcome home, Moni

Comments (19)So sorry you lost your home. Since you have lemons, make lemonade from the situation. Sorry, that sounds bad, but there is nothing like a fresh start. You're still young at 47 but if you expect this to be your forever home and not plan to retire to a warmer area of the country, you'll need to keep certain things in mind. We don't know where you live or what your life is like, but I can't imagine that a home larger than 3 bedrooms and 3 baths is needed. A 2,000 to 2,500 sq. ft. home should be more than enough. Property taxes never go down nor insurance, so are you in a special area in the country where a 3,000 sq.ft has minimal property taxes and insurance? My sister lives in an up and desirable area of the country and has a 1,500 sq. ft. home and her taxes are more than $6k per year! Unless there is something special about that lot, I agree that moving into a brand new home somewhere else might be far less stressful. You'll likely want a first floor master and maybe a first floor guest room if you think an aged parent might be in your future. Down here in Florida, two story homes often have a closet on the first floor that matches the location of a closet on the second floor to allow for a future electric lift. Good luck and come back when you make some decisions about where to live....See Morecarol_in_california
