Comments (5)Zep, thanks sooo much for your prompt reply, and for your link. Wow, you are fast. Think it sure looks like it is a false positive. That makes me feel alot better. I tried posting earlier, but I guess my security was up too high, and was not allowing cookies. I've got alot to learn.... I do have a 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium, though it says Windows 6.1 build? Intel Core 2 Duo P 7450 @ 2.13 Ghz with 6 Gb ram. I am not having any problems. I just know that your forum highly recommends Malwarebytes. I have used it in the past, just hadn't had time to install it on my new one. I have Window Firewall. Is that good enough? I plan to set up a new Linksys network. I will review some of the posts about setting up a new network. Is Trend Micro Antivirus a good program? I do have a new external HD to back everything up, but I have a question that I will post in a new post. Thanks again for your help....See MoreMalwarebytes problem
Comments (40)Hi Katlin It's time you move to a Malware removal forum. Running automated tools like that and hoping something sticks is not the best approach. You need to visit Landzdown forum. Post the required log files and then a determination of the infection is diagnosed, then the right tools will be used. I'm starting to get worried TDSS Killer is no toy, TDSS Killer is a rootkit scanner. Rootkit scanners have to be used with caution as they generate false positives. From your post: Threats detected Locked file Service: swenum medium risk I clicked on Delete . To sum things up: A locked file or service does not necessarily mean a threat. "Object is locked skipped" or "Access Denied" notations in an anti-virus/anti-malware scan are not uncommon. Some files and services are locked by the operating system or running programs during use for protection, so scanners cannot access them. When the scanner finds such an object, it makes a note and then just skips to the next one. That explains why it may show as "skipped", "locked" or "Access Denied" in certain anti-virus or anti-malware log scan reports. These types of detections are normal and not usually malware related so there is seldom a need for concern. File path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\swenum.sys The file swenum is a trustworthy file from Microsoft. The swenum.sys process is part of Microsoft Windows and should not be deleted or prevented from loading each time Windows loads. Doing so could cause errors or Windows to stop working. Because the swenum.sys file is a Windows Operating System file it is not recommend you download this file from any website. If this file is missing, it is likely other Windows related files are also missing, we suggest re-installing Windows to make sure your issue is correctly resolved. swenum.sys Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator Microsoft Corporation The file swenum.sys by Microsoft runs as a Windows kernel mode device driver named Software Bus DriverâÂÂ. The other thing that can happen in Malware is that a System file like swenum can get infected, but you just can't go an delete a Microsoft file that's part of the operating system, at that point the file has to be cleaned or replaced. Before any other issues occur, please get to a forum, save any log reports that these scanners may have created. I'm hoping that it was not a Microsoft file, but from my experience it doesn't look good. Worried, Joe...See MoreCannot start Malwarebytes with W10
Comments (12)Using a highly rated security program is a better approach and protection requires no user invention. By doing so, neither Super Anti Spyware nor Malwarebytes will likely be needed. It's not like having these run are essential or even needed for a properly protected machine. If you're not using a best in class program, uninstall what you have plus these two , pick just one of the top three rated programs on this list of independent test results shown in the link below, and be happy. Comments (14)Those are valid criticisms, debo, but are many years dated. I can only speak for one of the two that I use (and no need to mention which) and can say it's substantially changed and left those problems behind many, many years ago. It has an extremely light touch and you wouldn't know it's there other than the rare occasion when its real-time sentry function presents a popup to say it has blocked a problem in the act, before it could happen. Scans and updates are done only when the machine is inactive and postponed if use starts. There is no activity present or delays apparent at boot-up at all. Webroot looks to be a terrific choice, tied for first with three others and all four are given an Editors Choice award. If you're happy to proceed with Webroot, you really can't do any better. If you want to know which of the two mentioned I use successfully, click on my name to go to the site's user page and send me a message. I try to follow the advice I give, my own personal preference is of no value in the face of professional and objective ratings. Anyone with an interest should refer to those....See MoreUser
