internet security pick?
Comments (10)Maybe read the whole article rather than just the mindset gossip of one employee who was probably chastised. You made it clear in the past you are a genuine Norton Fan. Update - 12 October Microsoft has issued the following statement in response to the publication of this article: "We are committed to protecting our customers, and our Microsoft antimalware solutions provide strong, comprehensive defence against malicious code and attacks. We believe in these products and are proud of the protection capabilities we provide to well over 150 million computers worldwide." Comments (11)the fake antivirus infections do indeed put a shield in your taskbar that look quite similar to the real windows shield and some legit AV programs shields. I would recommend going to this other forum and tell them exactly what you have told us here and they will help you run some other scans to see what is still lurking, it is rare to get rid of these infections easily. You will need to register then start a thread in the area I link you to, it would be helpful if you then put a link from this thread in your post there so everything is in one post. Comments (23)The programs that I have used in the past were Norton, Avast, and McAfee. IMO they were all horrible. Caused my computer to be extremely slow, as well as other issues. When I found Malwarebytes, I was very happy with it. Used the free for personal use version for several years. Then when I started being hit with ransomware, decided it was time to start paying for a program I knew was good. Have not regretted it. What I ended up doing was disconnecting the power from my computer, home network router, and cable internet router for most of the day. I was away from home so did not need the computer. Upon restarting internet router, then home network router, then computer, my problems ended. Malwarebytes ran a scan (3.1.2 version and all is good. I love Malwarebytes. The problem now is that I keep getting a warning from "Microsoft Technologies" that I have threats that need to be repaired. How in the .... do I get rid of that?...See MoreWebroot or Microtrend Internet Security Software?
Comments (4)There are a number of free antivirus programs that perform just as well as ones you pay for. I paid for antivirus for many years and switched around between Norton/Symantec, McAfee, etc. But I got tired of all the changes from year to year with new interfaces, the way some versions would slow down my computer, and having to hunt for the best price annually. I finally decided to take the leap about 5 years ago with the free version of Avast. I have it on three different computers and have yet to have one virus make it past even though I am all over the Internet every day for more hours than I want to admit. It has a very clean interface, is simple to configure, and even has a password manager built in if you want to use it. If you really have your heart set on paying for software, Avast also has a paid version with a few more bells and whistles, but for me it is unnecessary.
