I think I'm out of styrax (although I have lots of seed) and I have several small loquats, but I'm leaving town and won't be back until the end of the month. I'd like to start some of these from seeds....but I have no experience at all with doing any of this. My large bush is covered with the white berries which the birds are now devouring. Can I plant those berries as they are now or must I wait for them to "mature" more on the bush...and take my chances with the birds leaving me some.... or should I break them open and plant the individual seeds? I have the bottoms of gallon milk jugs filled with potting soil....is covering this with a baggy, as the person before me described, required? Many thnaks for you time and consideration

Night blooming jasmine loves the sun. If you bought the plant from a store that kept it indoors, that means after a certain time the plant grew soft leaves according to the indoor climate. Now that you have it and you want to have in your garden, just put it there. It's going to loose all those soft leaves and grow new ones according to outdoor climate. Don't be scared, all the leaves are going to dry up and die, but it's going to grow new ones according to the "too much sun, wind, rain", stronger and shorter in size. The only thing that the night blooming jasmine doesn't take is too much cold or snow. Eventually it's going to die. If you live somewhere where it never snows or if the temperature never goes bellow 40 degrees F, you're OK. Otherwise you have to take it indoors winter time. Good luck

Central Florida has plenty of native plants with decorative features you could grow instead (I've been to the Orlando area and seen some of them myself). And as during my trips to Hawaii I found the native plants more interesting than the exotic ones - when a body travels to various places there is a tendency for the same garden favorites to be seen repeatedly within shared climate zones. Whereas local floras vary regionally, may often include intriguing plants that have little or no presence in large scale commercial horticulture.
