HELP! Can't choose between BM Quiet Moments and SW Sea Salt!
I'm 7 months pregnant and desperately trying to get our new home decorated (nesting). I've made my husband repaint the living room twice and I'm still not happy with the paint color. Our last place was SW sea salt and I loved it! It looked very blue with the lighting we had. I actually didn't even know it was supposed to be more of a green. Our new place has a lot of lighting, including recessed lighting in the living room. To be safe, and less on the green side, I chose BM Quiet Moments. It looks nice and blue gray (what I'm going for) in our dining room but in the living room it's a bright turquoise/aqua color. I tried to lighten in by 50 percent but I've been staring at these colors for so long that I can't even tell. I'm worried the QM at 50% intensity will be too "baby blue" or sky blue. Has anyone else had this experience, where QM looked bright aqua? Also, if you've lightened it, please post pics or tell me how it affected the color. I'm worried it took the gray/green out and looks like a bright sky blue now. I'm considering just painting it all sea salt like our last house but I've heard that sea salt and quiet moments are very similar. I'm worried the lighting will mess with sea salt too. Any advice is appreciated!
I attached a picture to show the brightness of quiet moments (regular intensity, not lightened) in my living room. Excuse the mess. We haven't settled on the color so everything is still in the middle of the room.

Comments (24)...and then there are those who have never driven a Lexus to know why it is different from a Toyota. If you don't know any better when it comes to paint, then you really aren't missing anything. ...and then there are the people who just don't see it, or get if, if given the opportunity to choose Lexus over Toyota. Really, no one cares. It's paint. The best thing to do is stick with what you know and want and that makes you happy. Or, go experiment and decide for your own self so you can *know* for yourself and ignore all the chatter back-n-forth. I chimed in because I think it's really unfair to painters to lob out there that they are intentionally marking up cans of paint to the point that's been implied. I said painters aren't making a living by being paint resellers. If selling paint was where they could make a living do you think any of them would actually paint? They make a living based on their skills and knowledge. Some are better at their craft than others and it is true that some are better businesspeople. The better craftsmen will quote your job based on how much labor will be involved and how much of their time your job is going to take. Time and work. Not paint. Paint doesn't matter in the grand scheme. I've found the less confident painters, the painters who do lesser amounts of high-end residential, commercial, and industrial work use the margin they get on a gallon to help them win jobs. They make it look like their cost for time and work is less than the next guy by using the delta on whatever margin they may get from the paint stores to help cover their landed costs. The bottom line is no different, folks. You will pay a painter what he's worth plain and simple. It all comes out in the wash -- smaller crews to bigger crews -- small volume guys to the poster child for a brand boys. At the end of the day, you are going to pay what it costs for their particular skillset, their time, their effort. Now, the core of this is client agreeing with the painter about how much the painter's skill, time, and effort are worth -- that's another discussion. If a little monkeying around with the numbers, shifting a few hundred bucks from the time and effort bottom line to somewhere else that isn't itemized out to the last cent makes you feel better and helps them get your job, do ya think it matters to them? Nope. They're going to make sure they are getting paid what they need to cover their overhead. As they should. No one is going to paint for someone and lose money doing it. The painters who are honest, savvy businessmen concerned about their reputation and neighborhood spin often don't monkey with itemized paint quotes. You're going to get a price and as long as you don't step too far outside the box to stuff like Fine Paint of Europe, or Farrow & Ball, or some specialized treatment, or prep, etc., their price for their work is what it's going to cost you to hire a professional painter, not a professional schlepper of paint. Comments (35)@mark_rachel, I changed to cedar key. I bought it to go with the new marble tile I picked for the fireplace. There is a lot of natural light in the room. It might be a little pinker than bleecker beige, but I don't really see the pink when I don't look at them together. To me it is a very very soft latte. In the store it felt more gray. On some adjacent walls, I have collectors item. It is a creamy color, seems like a very light version of the yellows I had before. It works with cedar key. I did not want to be surrounded by taupe or gray, which is why I chose to contrast with cream. My living area pallete right now is BM white, cedar key, and collector's item. The paint consultant picked out the latter two when I brought in my samples. I told her bleecker beige (taupe) was my least favorite color (sometimes you can't avoid things that work so well), and that I loved gray but didn't want to be surrounded by it. I lived with bleecker beige for several years. Visitors loved it. I think I was ready to tone down all the yellows on the walls and floor, so I am happy going with cooler hues. I think it would be beautiful to have the trim and perhaps the door also sw anew gray and the walls alabaster. Comments (7)i have used all those colors you mention including Healing Aloe in the same house. They each are beautiful and you can’t go wrong with any of them, alone or together. Yes, BG is a little darker and more blue than the others, but of course everything depends on your light in your rooms. Do samples in each room before you decide. 4 years agoHaving hard time deciding paint color. Kitchen cabinets will be painted white. Walls in kitchen, dining room and hall sea salt, rain washed or quiet moments. Living room was to be white...alabaster with tray ceiling trim same as kitchen. Concerned too white no trying balboa mist. Will welcome any suggestions

4 years agoWell ended up with alabaster in living room. Sea salt on tray ceiling and sea salt in kitchen dining room and hall. Love it. Since it looks so nice with my dark cabinets I decided not to paint white. Will send a pick
