Late May & Early June Blooms from Michigan (lots of photos!)
Comments (12)Kate -- I do not know much about Akebono. I recently became interested in Japanese roses after falling for Mikado and looking into the history of the hybridizer. (even though Akebono and Mikado have different hybridizers) That's one thing I just love about roses, all have a story and there is so much to learn. I looked up the minis on the Kordes site (the label said it was a Kordes rose) and I think it is Pink Poetry Kordana. Lothlin -- Yeah, George Burns makes quite a statement! Grimaldi is loaded with blooms, so even though the opened form isn't my favorite, the splashes of color make it a keeper! Sara-Ann -- thank you! I was surprised at how nice the Dick Clark bush looked on only it's second year. Jim -- thanks! I am a huge fan of the striped roses. They always put on such a show!...See MoreSome more from my little Michigan garden...

Comments (14)Beautiful pics. Clearly you are a striped rose fan. Me, too. The freckles on Hypnotized! are cool which reminded me of Monday night when I served as a volunteer chaperone at an all-night graduation party for our local HS. I got there just before 1 a.m. for my shift in time to see the hypnotist act with about seven of the graduates as guinea pigs. It was an absolute hoot what she had them doing and it was no act. I knew some of the kids. She had one girl hold out her hands and count out the number of fingers as she tapped them. She counted off 11 fingers, recounting them to check the accuracy another 3-4 times, each time counting 11. The girl stared in amazement at her 11 fingers each time. Asked if she played a musical instrument, the girl nodded yes, the piano. The hypnotist said then maybe this would be an advantage. The girl agreed as she continued to stare at her hands. Another funny one was where she a boy convinced he was pregnant with a belly bump. He was just amazed as he felt his "bump." She then induced labor with him having contractions, lying down on the floor, doing breathing exercises, and pushing to give birth. It's actually a little scary to think about the control she had. Sorry, I apologize for hijacking the thread but I had to share my very recent experience. I now return you regular programming....See MoreLong blooming clematis for SE Michigan Zone 5b
Comments (15)I have a love hate relationship with Paul Farges "Summer Snow". About 10 years ago I had a SS on this brick wall next to the neighbours house and their side walkway. It doesn't get optimal light here and yet it still overwhelms. I didn't like cleaning it up in the spring as it was hard to extricate the foliage from the support wires on the wall and I would inevitably pull down these wires. So at some point I shovel pruned it. Later the neighbour made some comment of missing it ;). So I bought another and here is the replacement 4 years later as of today: It is about 7 feet tall and about 15 feet wide (even after trimming back those sections which fall off the wall and grow over the plants in front of it). I do nothing to encourage it. If it got more sun there would be more flowers If you have a LOTS of room in a sun location this can be an impressive ("scary"?) clematis...See Moredick_in_ohio
