Comments (6)I LOVE Japanese anemones, particularly "Honorine Jobert", toad lillies (tricyrtis) which now come in a variety of leaf varigations and differences in flowers. Cimicifuga (also known as snakeroot) is blooming right now. I also like using the biennial Angelica gigas which turns REALLY mahogany red right now and has a large queen anne's lace like head. Plumbago (leadwort) has blue flowers right now and will change to red leaves soon. I have gaura blooming now, and dahlias, a variety of asters, boltonia asteroides, my coral bells continue to bloom until frost. I know I'm forgetting something...I'll have to look outside again and see what's showing tomorrow....See MoreSinking more money in a home in Michigan (pool?)
Comments (7)If you know you are going to move in a couple years, it's definitely not worth the headache. If a pool will help you love your house more - and who wouldn't with a brand new kitchen!!! - then do it. A house is not a business investment, it's a place to live. I am also a SAHM with a 9 month old and a 3 and 5 year old in the upper midwest. Our pool gets used almost daily, for hours and hours at a time. I would definitely investigate an auto cover. We have one on our pool and the safety and convenience are invaluable. Definitely set some money aside to get a good landscaping plan. We bought a plan from a professional designer and installed it ourselves to save some money. We live in a pretty close suburban neighborhood and everyone comments on how private our yard feels now that the plants have matured a bit in the last 18 months. It really looks great. Good luck with your decision!!...See MoreSome more from my little Michigan garden...

Comments (19)Thanks for commenting, everyone! Nancy, Dances With Giraffes is super tall! I've never measured, but it is probably close to 5 feet here (I got it 2 years ago). I have it by a couple of other tall ones, Getting Airborne and Up And At 'Em. That is monarda - mine have really started blooming over the past week or so. That particular one is called Peter's Fancy Fuchsia, I bought it from Bluestone a few years ago, I have a few clumps of it. It gets really tall. Julia, you're right, the red bee balm is harder to keep a clump of... I've had a couple that have died out (Fireball is one), Jacob Klein does pretty well here. Most of my non-red bee balm went bonkers and grew like crazy since last year, I had to rip out a ton of it and I completely removed it from a couple of areas where it was getting into too many other plants....See Morenummykitchen
