Comments (15)Nicole, we spent a week one night in a mobile home in Estes Park. It was during a hail storm in early September. The noise of the hail on the roof of the mobile home and trying to navigate through the streets is firmly burned in our mostly pleasant memories of our first trip west to tour Colorado by motorcycle. Comments (21)Annie, I haven't tried the soap thing to discourage the deer. Daughter has some hanging in her yard and says it seems to work as long as the soap in within a few feet of what she wants to protect. Liquid Fence works well for me if I am diligent about timing and consider any rain washing it off in the equation. I should hang the soap to help take up any slack. You say Ivory, I have always heard Irish Spring. Joanmn, my memories of Bison is a herd of them walking within 10 feet of the road we were riding on in N.D. Comments (10)This red squirrel has been entertaining us daily for weeks in his efforts to get to the feeders. First he goes up the pole....no good. Then he goes into the shrub on the left...no go, so then he tries the shrub on the right, nope again. So he tries the maple tree behind. That doesn't work either. So it's back to the drawing board. Sooner or later he is going to succeed....See More

9 years agolast modified: 9 years agoTo correlate with Jemdandy's thread on the Declaration of Independence and freedom, on our trip to Washington DH and I made a point of visiting the Lincoln Memorial. Along with all the other historical details, I was interested to read on Wikipedia that a "popular legend is that Lincoln is shown using sign language to represent his initials, with his left hand shaped to form an "A" and his right hand to form an "L", the president's initials." This is plausible since the sculptor may have wished to pay tribute to "Lincoln for having signed the federal legislation giving Gallaudet University, a university for the deaf, the authority to grant college degrees."
9 years agoLgmd, come to think about it, I haven't seen too many lately either. A few skippers. I saw quite a few early on and I wonder if all this rain has something to do with it. The hummers haven't been active either. A few from around the gardens this morning before more rain hits
