Question for owners of Electrolux ICON all fridge & all freezer
Comments (7)rhome 410 -- thanks for your response and your kitchen looks fabulous! You have given me some hope that the ICONS may work for us too. In both cases (left of freezer and right of fridge) the "wall" is actually part of a cased opening, so our situation is somewhat similar to what you have with your freezer. But our "wall" is a bit deeper -- the plans call for these walls to extend about 17" beyond the face of the fridge/freezer. We could make the cased openings a little wider if we need to. Would you mind telling me the distance between the face of your freezer and the doorway that the freezer door opens into (you say it is "about a foot or more")? And I'm assuming you can get your freezer door open wide enough to remove bins for cleaning? You are correct that most other fridges/freezers would have the same problem, but I have found a set that would work for us and of course they cost a mint. The Sub Zero 700TR and 700 TF would require much less clearance, and they are also narrower (27" instead of 32") so I could bump the fridge to the left and freezer to the right without changing cased openings and have plenty of wall clearance. They are shallower too (24") which would be better for our layout. But for a $8,400 savings, I sure would like to make those ICONS work! The ICONS look great online and in your kitchen. My reservations were mostly based on my visit to our local dealer. The dealer was very unimpressive and could not even understand my question, much less answer it....See MoreFull Size Fridge and Freezer in Kitchen?
Comments (18)I was prepared to pay up to $2500 a piece for the built-ins. I just never knew that built-ins cost so much more! I actually like the all stainless look :-) I guess this is a YMMV sort of thing. We donÂt have the house yet  I canÂt wait to post the layout for all of you to help me with. Right now, the fridge wall is not seen from anywhere but the kitchen  so that should not be a problem. Unless you all convince me it should be somewhere else! LOL. This is a fairly large kitchen and I just remember seeing kitchens from this site that used the full fridge and full freezer and thought what a neat idea that was. Now, I have the space and wanted to check it out. I never dreamed these things cost so much. I also never considered refrigerator drawers hmmmmÂ. ItÂs really fun thinking about all of this. I go to sleep at night thinking of this, and I lay in bed for 10 minutes every morning doing the same. I find I think clearest at those times. :-)...See MoreCounter depth fridge that can be installed w/o gaps
Comments (38)Her big splurge, the BlueStar platinum 48... I love our Bluestar. It's an amazing range. Would absolutely buy it again in a heart beat. But a 48" Platinum would be unlikely to be anything I'd normally recommend. That model is all about looks and not really that great for functionality. I understand about splurging. But if I spend all that money, I'd want it to actually be something I like to use. The 25kBTU Platinum burners are fun (we have one of those in our range), but the 22kBTU burners of the RNB are very similar; if this is the only reason for the Platinum, then it doesn't really justify the much higher cost. The griddle on the RNB is IMHO a better design. Can't comment on the grill, but I personally don't think an in-door grill is a great option anyway. The fancy oven burners in the Platinum are great for faster pre-heating, but are overall a more questionable design than the more traditional burners in the RNB. A 48" range is much less ergonomic than a rangetop plus wall ovens. The venting requirements for a 48" range are crazy. You need somewhere on the order of 2000 CFM, which means a loud expensive vent hood, a very complex make-up-air system, and no upper cabinets. Unlike a 30" range, a 48" range doesn't have spacers in-between the burners. So, you will need to put the grill or griddle in the center between the burners. Otherwise, your burners are too close together and you can't ever use big pots. But with the grill/griddle in the center, you have to always walk a long distance left-to-right when using more than one pot. Alternatively, you can decide for eight burners and no grill/griddle, but I have yet to hear of anybody who can actually keep all eight burners in active use. Again, a more reasonably sized rangetop and wall ovens work better; the wall ovens can be used for simmering much more evenly than any hobs. We have four hobs and three ovens in our kitchen. I use all three ovens every so often. But I can't remember the last time I used more than two hobs. I wouldn't have any idea what to do with eight of them....See MoreThermador Fridge & Freezer columns and can I change Salesperson
Comments (14)Hello Sabine- I agree with Verbo that as the customer you should always do your own [exhaustive] research. It is after all, your money, and you will be living with results. I do however disagree that you are stuck with the salesperson you first work with. If your experience with the salesperson is unsatisfactory for any reason, for example, 1. the salesperson has an insufficient fund of knowledge about the product, 2. is rude or patronizing 3. does not reasonably accomodate any disabilities you may have 4. is not willing to provide the information about the product 5. seems to be evincing a prejudice of one sort or another (less common these days, but can still happen,) i.e. "I'll explain this when you come back with your husband"... "I don't think you can afford this, let's look at this instead," when you haven't even said what your price range is, etc However, I do think you are most certainly entitled to speak with the store manager or sales manager and request to deal with someone else, Ideally the manager himself./herself. If the manager says he/she will speak to the original salesperson you can say, "No thank you, I have come here on the express recommendation of Joe Blow my interior designer because of the service you all provide. I am more than disappointed at what has happened thus far. My questions have not been answered and it seems that there is a communication problem. I would like to be able to make all my kitchen purchases here and be able to tell Joe Blow that you treated me well. Would you be so good as to take care of me personally? I don't mind waiting." And then give your prettiest smile and park your behind right there until he takes care of you. (Note, don't trash the saleslady, for all you know the two of them may be banging harder than a screen door in a hurricane.)...See Morerantontoo
