Thermador or Sub-Zero Fridge/Freezer?
Comments (22)I had a pair of Thermador Columns installed in December (30" Fridge, 30" Freezer). I love them. I had a hard time deciding between the above set vs. 27" pair from SubZero. So far, everything has worked perfectly and I'm very happy with my decision. My final deciding points were: For about 20% less money I could get 25% more storage. (The 27" SubZeros were about 25% more money compared to the 30"), and I had room for either. I LOVED the way the doors on the Thermadors swung fully to the outside of the fridge, rather than staying within the front of the fridge. Opening is so much wider feeling. As for now living with it, here are some thoughts on concerns others have brought up: I'm 5/2" and have no complaints about the top shelves. They are high, but I prefer that to stooping over for lower stuff. And the drawers are great! And I like the shallow shelves, with deeper door stuff because no more lost stuff in the back of the fridge. The doors hold ALL the condiment type stuff and the rest is wide open for large jugs of milk, juice, and everything else! One of the comments I get most when people look inside is: WOW, you can see EVERYTHING at a glance! It all seems to be at eye level and just item or two deep. No more hidden leftovers & stuff. The shelves are still deep enough to hold two gallons of milk, one in front of the other, as well as my big huge serving platter, cookie sheets, and pizza boxes. So no need for the shelves to be any deeper for me. I love the ice bucket location. Open the door and it's right at waist/chest level. Perfect. As I said before - no regrets so far!...See MoreHandles for custom panel Thermador column freezer refridgerator
Comments (8)We have a paneled Liebherr and went with pulls similar to our cabinets in a thicker, heavier size. They were not listed under cabinet hardware, but under door hardware as "grips and pulls" Ours are "sash grips" by Rocky Mountain Hardware in Silicon Bronze, and for the cabinets they are called sash pulls. I really like the soft feel of this handle as well as the look. Comments (2)Thermador has been at it far longer than subzero so I normally recommend them (or miele or gaggenau which come out of the same factory). They have been very reliable and are well priced. The only instance where the subzero has an advantage is the install with regards to the hinge. If you are installing in a tight space, the hinge on a subzero opens within the width of the unit. So you can put it up against a wall or hinge to handle. In the therm/miele/gag units the hinge is articulating and opens wider than the body of the unit by about 2"...See MoreAdvice: Refrigerator /Freezer Columns -Miele vs Thermador
Comments (15)Does anyone know if Miele has plans for a 24 inch freezer like their others? Apparently the current 24 is Liebhor designed and not he same as the others (do door shelves)? Is that how the other sizes were as some point? I am planning a 36 inch column fridge and 24 freezer. Prefer Miele but don't like that freezer. I'm still a year away from my project so hoping that 24 is temporary filler for a 24 Built and styled like the other sizes. Would a paneled Thermador 24 look like a match to the Miele fridge? Or go to 30/30 like the original poster but I think I could use the fridge bigger, I have a garage freezer but don't want to go as skinny as the 18 inch. 24 seems the right size for me. Or I might go sub zero as I also like their over under all fridge (all fridge but with 2 separate drawers at the bottom). I currently have produce in undercounter refrigerator drawers and like the one step pull out access. But I'm more of a Miele fan. Had a subzero in my old house and knew my repair man a bit too well. But that Miele 24 freezer is a problem and I would love if Miele did the separate drawers on the bottom style for the fridge....See MoreSabine
