Unfortunately, MS will Force this update again in the future.

Question? Do any of you temporarily disable or exit whatever anti virus/ maleware software before DL and installing MS updates, most of which are security updates, I always do and have never had a problem after restart all is as it should be. Maybe some of you need to try this. And the last one I got was a doozy huge update but all went well.

No disabling here. But that's because MS recognizes my antivirus program...Malwarebytes Prime 3. I do, however, defrag before any update [not just MS's] and defrag immediately after the update. This habit has stood me in good stead for eons. And...just to be on the safe side, if I have any doubts, I always check my Event Log to make sure all the updates "took".

On the very rare occasion, when an update has acted in a squirrely manner, it's always been MS's fault and the update glitch is usually widely broadcast on internet tech sites within a matter of hours. When that's the case...I manually remove the update and either wait for a replacement or leave it off entirely.

Where did that advice (disabling the security program) come from? I never act on advice, especially as concerns the operating system, unless I'm comfortable it comes from an authoritative source.

This is a new one for me but I'm no expert. Each month hundreds of millions of PCs get monthly regular Windows updates without that step being done. More of them than not are set to auto-update, as is now the standard for Wind 10, and that's the best approach for most users. That's good enough for me.

When updates cause a hiccup, and they sometimes do for various reasons, it's easy enough to back up and do it a second time, as discussed above.

zep, the option to keep drivers from being downloaded is not there for me?

There are no 2nd or 3rd steps.

On the Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise you get the "Disable Automatic Driver Updates" option after disabling the entire auto update.

(On my system, Windows 10 Home there are no other options after disabling the Automatic Update function.)

You can put off the entire update for a while but you can't stop the downloading of any of the drivers that may be wrecking your system .. as the video driver does mine!

On a site that I have trusted, many times (How-To Geek) for "How To solutions", I found the following 'tools' for doing what I can't do myself!

I have downloaded both the disable and enable tools but wont use them until I get a number of feedbacks from the experts!

I would do both, a system restore does not back up the entire registry.

Then proceed with the registry edit you're going to do.

I have no clue what I'm doing either.

The old Gardenweb forum allowed us to use HTML in our posts. The new Gardenweb does not.

Edit: Throw your HTML code in a text file, name the file "test.html" and open it with your browser. It works fine.
