I need your opinion about these roses
Comments (6)Rosette delizzy --- A beauty in SoCal, where it has never rusted or mildewed, in umpty years. Color fades in hot weather, best in cool conditions. Mme.joseph schwartz -- Lovely rose. Mildews badly here, and also in other places where I have observed it. But I finally found a clone of Duchesse de Brabant that is clean, so maybe MJS can be clean, too. Gilbert Nabonnand -- Absolutely wonderful here. The blooms are almost opalescent -- pinker in cool weather. Completely clean here (which means no rust or mildew), this is a rather arching, open plant with great repeat bloom in my coastal conditions. Grandmother's hat -- A great Southern California rose, useful as a bush, tall specimen plant, or espaliered as a climber. Great repeat. Fragrant, and terrific in a vase. BUT if you have blackspot problems, beware. She can be susceptible. Irene watts -- The rose in commerce under this name is the Floribunda, 'Pink Gruss an Aachen' (a sport of 'Gruss an Aachen.') This is not to say she's not a great rose, but she is most surely not a China. Jeri...See MoreYour opinion of Claire Austin
Comments (46)You can buy them established, my local nursery has them and does a great job. It does take ages to do it yourself I have to warn you, like 5 years before they produce fruit. I am nuts and wanted to do them from a whip because I wanted the whole tree the same fruit. All the places I found with Espalier trees had them with a different variety for each branch! I am doing 2 apple varieties and a pear. I bought mine on https://www.starkbros.com/ but you can also get any old fruit tree and just start with the first two branches. I know costco has fruit trees about now. Starting with at least the first row of branches knocks a year off your time frame to that can be helpful! Comments (9)I used to grow First Prize. I would like to again if I can find room. First Prize got its name for a reason. It can be downright gorgeous. It was AARS 1970 and was the top show rose in the American Rose Society point tallies for 17 years. It was edged out be another nice, but disease-prone rose called Touch of Class and several others along the way. First Prize had generally good blooming, reblooming, and growing characteristics across the country. It did have two major downfalls. It didn't like winter, and its form was not consistently dependable. That is, the spiral centers with high points that exhibitors swoon over wasn't always there. Depending on climate, season, and cultural practices, the blended color was anywhere from shaded pinks to a gradation of ivory through pink to almost red. I believe that if you add Messenger to your spray program you will not have much of a disease problem with this rose. I have not grown this rose with the Messenger and fungicidal spray treatment yet, but the majority of roses I have used this combination on are clean or nearly so. Even my worst offenders, Osiria and Sundowner, do better with the Messenger supplement than without. I myself would give the First Prize a try just to see how well it actually does because in its day it had quite a following as the fad show rose. Just keep it sprayed and well-fed during the growing season....See MoreYour opinions please about these design changes
Comments (8)I had a pullout pantry next to the fridge in my last kitchen. I had the cabinet people put a pullout cutting board in between the upper and lower pantry pullout sections so I could off load. However, we also had an island counter there to put bags on, and I had not accounted for the actual height and width of the cutting board when I envisioned it....The result was more of a "handy cocktail landing" at slightly above elbow height that we never pulled out except for a laugh. Still, your pantry is wide enough if you keep the full width (believe me when I tell you that 12 inches won't do it!) that it might work as a landing. Looks like you are familiar with this issue in your current kitchen and it shouldn't be a much of a problem....See MoreSheila z8a Rogue Valley OR
