Who grow 'Summer Memories', 'Mon Petit Chou' and 'Claire Austin'?
Comments (4)I can only comment on Claire Austin. It has a bit of yellow to the flowers at first. It is fragrant. It is still in the getting itself established phase so it is still somewhat premature for a final judgement. It does repeat, but not as well in the ground yet as it did in a pot. The growth habit is on the spindly side. I am trying to grow it onto an obelisk. I have not cut any flowers yet to evaluate vase life. I think my near-white Lichfield Angel has done quite a bit better overall than this one. I also have Summer Memories on order to have a look at it....See MoreWhat about Claire Austin?
Comments (3)Thanks, duchesse, for responding. I see that David Austin has listed her as a new 2009 offering. Not sure how I knew about her if she is that new--hmmmm. I'm still looking around for the perfect white climber (pillar) for the one open spot I have, but Claire Austin hasn't been removed from my list of possibilities. I may take the plunge yet! Comments (1)This is definitely one of those Austins which take quite a few years to settle into a predictable growth pattern. Like a lot of Austins, in its juvenile stage of growth, it is very lax, tending to sprawl and droop but after 4-5 years, it stiffens its sinews into something more useful (I don't enjoy white roses flopping into the mud) although it will never be a strongly upright rose. I suspect some discreet supports would be a useful strategy with this one since it also has a slightly wayward tendency which will, I think, form a nicely fountaining spectacle....See MoreDavid Austin Spring order..YES your opinion matters
Comments (55)I wanted to get 2 lady of shallot & 2 Munstead wood for my front bed. I also want boscobel & a few others for different spots. I'm 1.5 hour drive from hortico. The 10 minute drive I was referring too was the garden centre that is willing to try & source as many roses as I want. My other favourite local garden centre is huge, nice plants but only orders different plants if they get multiple requests. If the local place can't get them I will do the special rose order for fall or spring from hortico. I was also too late to order from palatines too. They were sold out of every thing before the cut off date. Again I could drive there in 2 hours to buy potted plants. Now I have to wait & see what is sold locally. The earliest place gets roses in early April. It's an indoor greenhouse. The rest are outdoors so usually end of April or may for them....See Moredublinbay z6 (KS)
