Eye makeup for sensitive eyes - recommendations?
Comments (39)Over time my eyes have become very sensitive and itchy. I've always worn eye makeup -- tons and tons. I never go out without eye makeup. Love it but the last few years, just putting on eye liner is very itchy. So I have some work arounds. First, I use Visine soothing drops before trying to put on any makeup. I like Make Up Forever Aqua Eyes liner pencils -- soft and not too expensive. Sephora has them. Then I fill in with Milani eye liner. It's inexpensive and has an accurate brush. Drugstore.com has it. I've gone around with mascara but always come back to Lancome. They have a base coat/lash conditioner that makes the mascara go on easier and say on very well without irritation. Another mascara that has worked well is Laura Mercier though it didn't thicken enough for me LOL. There are a few removers that work well. I find I need more than one. Lancome's Bi Facil is my longtime staple. It gets most any eye make up off very easily. But then I go over my eyes with the Eye Scrub Lyban linked above -- also from drugstore.com It's sterile in sealed pouches and removes the little bits. I also sometimes use Klorane Floral lotion which is very mild. My eye lids were awfully dry a few years ago -- my skin has become dryer over all. I use Mario Badescu Special Eye Cream V every night. It's sheer and doesn't irritate. Mario Badescu, in NYC., is a salon that makes their own products which are quite gentle. I order those online and usually wait till they have a % off sale and free shipping around holidays. Their emails let you know. They are the best quality/value I've found overall for skin care and the choices are extensive. They have 8 different eye creams depending on skin needs. They also give free samples with order. And their Glycolic Foaming face wash removes all traces of makeup after the two removers -- but leaves skin moist. But there's a whole menu of those too, geared to skin type. I also really love their face creams -- it's hard for me to get any that really moisturize but theirs do. So many suggestions! Will be interesting to see what you like....See MoreHyper pigmentation under my eyes
Comments (25)Schoolhouse it may be something else. However, I had a tiny little spot on my upper arm in my 30's and my then dermatologist said it's nothing, don't worry about it and refused to remove it. Well after two years I finally went to see another dermatologist who said the same thing, but also said if it bothers you let's take it off. She did and sent it to the lab. Well it was Basal Cell Carcinoma, an atypical presentation. She explained that Basal Cell is really not dangerous, but more like a warning sign that I need to have a skin check every year and use lots of sun protection. That is why I would never except a wait of several months before a doctor examines any change in my skin that I did not recognize. I know a seborrheic keratoses when I see one. They come in many different colors, sizes, and textures, yet are all very similar....See MoreHas anyone had fillers for lines under the eyes.
Comments (42)3katz, I get Botox 4 times a year, 1/2 syringe I think, mostly in my forehead, between my eyes (those two vertical lines between my eyes, know what I mean?). It runs about $300 a session because there's a points program you can apply to future costs. Where I go this would cost Ida $600 since she gets Botox twice a year. I don't color my hair. If I did, I'd need a touchup at least every 4-6 weeks. I'd want it done well. How much do I save not having to do that? I just looked at prices on a couple of invoices I saved. With discounts, I paid $875 for Voluma and $495 for Restylane. The Voluma lasts a year or so, fills general low spots and deeper lines. I don't use it to inflate my cheekbones which are fine. Restylane is for my undereye area and will last 15-18 months. It's the difference between a hollow, haggard look and a smooth area that doesn't look "done" at all. So, based on my usage, it costs me maybe $200/month, although I don't get stuff every month. As others have said, we all have things we care a lot about, that others would consider nonessential, even frivolous or shallow. Why shell out money for new bedding? Who's gonna see my bedroom anyway, and why do I care what they think of it? My car is 15 years old and it drives just fine. If I were unable to afford groceries or pay my utilities on time because of my vanity expenses, I would have a problem. I have enough of what I need. I can even give some away. If someone wants to feel better about their appearance (hello, makeup? haircut? laundered clothes?), go forth and do so....See MoreGreat under eye wrinkle gel
Comments (75)Bunny, I have combo skin and get occasional acne. (Yes, so unfair.) Argan oil doesn't make my skin break out. It's a non-clogging oil that has antibacterial and antifungal properties that help prevent acne, and is actually recommended for acne-prone skin in teens that still needs to be moisturized. It's been researched and shown to be very good for skin and hair. The last time I checked, it was still being sustainably harvested (although that could change as its popularity increases). Rosehip is another oil that's really good for acne-prone skin. The only benefit I find to the Hydro Boost is that it dries instantly and I can apply make-up sooner. Argan oil takes a few minutes to absorb. But once it does, it's not oily or shiny and doesn't clog my pores. A little goes a long way. I use the Shea Organics brand. You may already know all of this but I wanted to reiterate that not all oils are the same. A few years ago, my friends were walking around greased up in coconut oil and breaking out right and left, and now no longer trust any "oil"....See Moredaisychain Zn3b
