My babies...Adenium babies, that is...

I've been lurking here a long time, soaking up all the info. I love seeing everyone's photos.

A long time ago, I had a beautiful Adenium for a number of years until one winter night we lost power and thus no heat in the greenhouse. This spring I decided to start some Adenium seeds and ordered them from Orient Adenium. I planted them on March 20 and here they are now...

1) Midnight x Indigo Glaze

9 out of 10 seeds germinated, but one never developed true leaves, so I have 8 plants.

2) Sunset Dream

14 out of 15 seeds germinated

3) Silver Wing

13 out of 15 germinated, including one set of twins and one with yellowy leaves.

4) Grape Fairy

13 out of 15 germinated. These are much smaller growing and quite fat in proportion to their height. One of them is teeny with teeny needle like leaves.

I've been growing them under lights on a heating mat and so far, so good :-) Hope they continue to do well.

They look great so far! I hope you get at least one purple from your first group. The percentages I'm told are very low on purples but you might get lucky. Might also not bloom with much if any purple in the first flowers so you may need to hold onto those and let them mature a while before you cull.

Like you I also got one here or there with yellow leaves and dwarfed. I also have several tiny fat seedlings with very petite leaves - they also branch nicely and are among some of my favorites. They are mostly my Kiseki seedlings but some are other things.

Keep up the excellent growing. They look healthy.

I am a big fan of single flowers and Grape Fairy is one that Ive been after. Last fall I planted some seeds from a different seller, that are somewhat similar. You might have to share one with me if mine don't turn out. ;-)

I look forward to the Indigo Glaze cross. Those are beautiful parent plants, I hope you get some great flowers out of those seedlings.

Memereboy, hi there. I am definitely not a DR expert as you may have gathered already, but lets see. From what you have said, I notice the following points... 1/I dont know what the temps are in your area, but from saying you are in drought conditions, it sounds hot to me! 2/I noticed even when I pinched the tips off my very small plants above they 'bled' quite a lot of sap..if you have cut yours drastically and its a big plant, it will have lost a lot more...which it needs to replace somehow. 3/It has just been re-potted so is also 'in shock'. 4/It's in sandy free draining soil and isn't being watered other than every 2 weeks. My conclusion is I'm thinking it must be very thirsty. What I did worked for my plants, but they are in a totally different environment from yours I'm certain. It's been bitterly cold here this winter and mine were lacking warmth and water, that was what made mine go soft. I originally thought they were not rotten, so I had kept watering to a bare minimum. In fact they were just drying up and I was killing them even faster by not watering!! They have now got many more shiny new leaves than in the pic above and all 5's caudexes have fattened up and hardened off fantastically. As I said, I am no expert so dont take this as gospel, its just my opinion. I hope someone else will come in and help you save your plant..I really hope you can btw. Post a pic if possible as that always helps. Good luck.

Jericson, You have hundreds of photos in this post that it takes forever to download. And while it's downloading the texts/media are jumping around trying to settle in, I guess. Although I enjoy your pictures, I am afraid of crashing my computer (don't think it would). So would you kindly create a Part II or something to this post? I'm not asking only for my own convenience, maybe others are having the same issues? Again, I enjoy your pictures. But in the time it takes to download this post, I could have transplanted an adenium or two. :laugh:

Lol bloody cats people either love em or hate em im on the fence about them. Ah Agartta i don't have any others bloombing yet I wish I did so I could take some pics. I dont know what the weathers doing here it started getting warmer and most of my Adeniums were starting to get new buds but now the weathers gone down again to 3 Celsius (37.5 Fahrenheit) I went all out and got a heater yesterday for my greenhouse, im going nuts with my seedling production something like 4000 seeds came in the mail the other week and i want to get an early start on the growing season.

Dain, that looks like a great cross! The Indigo Glaze seedlings I have are really nice... vigorous, chunky, and a lot of them are already starting to branch.

I love the Grape Fairy seedlings because they're so small and chubby. One of the Sunset Dream seedlings has somewhat mottled leaves and I'm thinking that it may be variegated. Either that or sick, lol, time will tell :-)

Oh wow, you have some healthy "babies"!!! And I think it's cool you won't have to wait forever for them to start blooming. Please post pictures when they do!
