A man that brings a therapy dog for patients to the place I work said this happened to his dog. She's a Doberman and got into a whole bowl of dough. He said she was perfectly fine.

My doxie has gotten into chocolate before too and nothing. Not that I would purposely feed it to him but like you mention sometimes fatigue and forgetfulness get the best of us.

Wow, that was a close call! Happy that Georgy is OK. Just goes to show how pet owners need to be alert to unexpected things happening to their pets, as you mention. Our granddaughters always had to be vigilant about picking up their tiny plastic dolls and accessories, since one of their cats persistently tried to eat them. Fortunately, the cat never got sick from the plastic.

Glad she's ok! I would think raw dough wouldn't be that appealing to a dog... yuck! I had a yellow lab who was a counter surfer... she never ate raw dough but she did eat a whole loaf of bread once, along with some of the plastic bag! Iron stomachs.

Feeding her ice cubes! Funny but makes sense. The yeast probably had a really nice taste and scent.

My pup chewed a baseball recently. Next day he could not keep food down and threw up red threads on and off all day. Naturally this was Memorial Day weekend. $85 trip to emergency vet, estimated $575 for x-rays, etc. to treat him, so I passed on that expense since he acted ok except for vomiting. I took him home and next day he was ok.

Our pets! Goodness knows what some will eat. My brother had a German Shepherd when he was in college. He used to win bar and party bets on what that dog would eat. There only were about 3 things that dog would not eat. I can't remember what they were but one was wilted lettuce (crisp was fine). Dog lived to a ripe old age as I recall.

Glad to read all turned out well! Our late Boxer girl was quite a thief as well and once ate a big box of chocolates. The vet said to give her hydrogen peroxide and it worked like a charm to induce vomiting. She also spilled and ate most of a 4 pound bag of sugar. Oh, the joys of furry boneheads. :)

Sparky has eaten plenty of things he shouldn't. A whole bag of chocolate chips, an entire pizza, vitamins, he never gets sick. I have become much more careful over the years.

Georgy dodged a bullet but it probably took 5 years off your life expectancy! My late beloved Godfrey would eat anything and got into chocolate a couple of times - DARK chocolate. Nice big vet bills. The dog was like a goat - he would and could eat anything, including the plastic lid to the whipped butter container. No ill effects...except for me!

That sounds awful! Labs are known for eating anything and everything, and from others here, including Georgy, I guess any dog will eat things that they shouldn't.

I'm so glad he's okay. I'm not impressed at all with that vet. For being an emergency clinic, he was of no help whatsoever. If something had happened to Georgy I think he should be held responsible.

One of our labs ripped opened a 40 pound bag of kibble and ate most of it before we caught her. She looked like a barrel with legs and per the vet's instructions we kept a close eye one her. Aside from being lethargic and a pooping machine she was fine after a couple of days.

Guess we only had 'picky eaters'. We still laugh when we see butter pecan ice cream on a menu. I once gave our first Westie the last bit of mine. He ate it quickly, but when I bent down to pick up the dish I saw he'd left all the pecan bits in the bottom of the dish.

A neighbor's golden was a regular at the vet. She swallowed rocks.

My Little Lil doesn't eat things except crumbs..she's funny as she will grab a crumb off the floor but if someone set a plate of food any type of food where she can get to it and left the area she won't approach it. Shes never been a chewer either. But I understand this is out of the normal for a dog.

A man I used to work with had rottweilers. The stories he would tell me lol He had one that was the pack leader. Max (the dog haha) was the favorite and a clepto. My co-worker said one evening he had fallen asleep in his recliner. He had ordered a pizza and only ate a bit of it and fell asleep with a piece of pizza in his hand. When he woke up the pizza was of course gone and the piece still left in his hand was eaten up to his fingers. LOLOLOL How do dogs think to do these things?? :D

So glad Georgy is ok! I've told this story before, but at Christmas my BIL was carving a leg of lamb. Of course my ravenous Dusty was at his feet, waiting for anything to fall. The pop up timer fell on the floor, and he gobbled it up immediately. Had to have surgery to remove it!

I had no idea that bread dough was harmful. Glad Georgy is fine.

Do those pop up timers have those little watch batteries in them? I've heard they wll kill any pet or human that swollows one.

So glad she is okay. I have dogs like that...they will eat anything. You can't turn your back on them.

Glad Georgy is okay. We've had several scares over the years, as our chocolate lab is one of the eat anything types. Drywall screws, most of a 40 bag of kibble, a socket from my husband's tool set, rocks and most recently, most of a diaper! She has cost us a fair amount at the vet over the years. But...she's our furbaby.

Glad Georgy is okay. I would have freaked out too because raw dough is awful for dogs. I have two who would eat almost anything. The dachshund eats poop so... I try to be so vigilant with dental floss and often scour the floor looking for something the cats and dogs might ingest. Pets...they'll worry us to death. Once my greyhound ate a whole baguette we left in the car for two minutes running in for an errand.

I'm glad Georgy is okay. My Dachshund will eat almost anything so we are very careful about food when she is with us. When we first got her we would feed her a small bit of what we ate. (We stopped doing that many years ago. Bad for dogs to eat people food.)

Found out she would any kind of meat or fish, of course, but also veggies. She loves brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, sweet peppers, romaine lettuce, and all kinds of fruits. The only things she doesn't like is citrus and onions.

She also eats anything she finds outside, but I don't want to make any one toss their cookies so won't say what it is. One thing is what lily316 said but also other things she finds.

While we're talking about things that are bad for dogs, add onions, garlic, grapes and raisins, caffeine, fatty meats, avocados, salty foods and dairy products. Here is a link with more information: Food that is bad for dogs

My biggest dog eats everything! So far he's been caught with his paw in the chocolate jar, not in his mouth so we've been lucky. How did he get there. He taught himself to open doors. :( He was going into the kitchen through the door and counter surfing. He's gotten a hold of a bag of hotdog buns and the chocolate. We caught him tearing into the package. He didn't actually get one bite of chocolate though. We have latched the kitchen, the cupboard where his food is kept and made a cat's only eating area. Also the front door is always locked! Sigh.

Also he swallowed a ball whole by accident with a big swallow of river water, and had to have an operation to get it out. Poor guy.

Since dough rises from the action of gases given off by the yeast, maybe the dog's stomach acid did a number on the yeast stopping it by killing it. Apparently, that was a good sized wad of carbohydrates for him to gulp down and that alone could have given him an uncomfortable upper GI tract. All is well that ends well. Thank goodness it wasn't chocolate pie filling.
