Tell me about Helen Hayes & Garden Party
Comments (15)Maybe Garden Party is not great for the West Coast because of the mildew problem there. Elsewhere it is a generous bloomer in hot weather, with fewer but very large, full flowers coming in fall. Its hardiness is a plus in the East and Midwest, especially since many other whites are so tender. The plant is nicely full and bushy. Still an outstanding rose....See MoreWays to help my dear Aunt
Comments (8)Kay ~ That is a wonderful idea and we would have her down if we could, but we aren't in a position to do that, financially or room wise. We live in a tiny cottage with no extra space. Mav63 ~ I did write to her telling her to write whatever she feels like writing to us, her feelings her memories of Uncle Wilbur and I sure hope she will. She and I have always enjoyed our letters to each other. I also send her pictures all the time of our projects and pics of gardens. She has always encouraged DH and I and now it's my turn to listen and encourage her as much as I can. We love her dearly. She does have her only daughter and they are very close, and she had talked of moving near her before this happened and also of moving into a retirement home. I am reading a book now by Jean Hersey "A Widow's Pilgrimage" and it is really giving me an insight into this experience. I agree that everyone grieves differently and that it all takes time, and life is not the same anymore as one new it. My heart goes out to those who have lost loved ones. Comments (20)Sorry, I took it off, because it really didn’t answer the OP’s question, which was where to buy a certain brand. Cornbread 1 cup self rising cornmeal mix 1 cup buttermilk 1 egg 2 tablespoons oil or bacon drippings Turn on oven to 425* and place small cast iron skillet oiled with 1 to 2 tablespoons oil or bacon drippings. Mix above ingredients and pour into hot skillet after oven reaches 425*. Bake until done, about 25 to 30 minutes, I think. Top will be light brown. You can check with a toothpick. Turn out onto plate. This can be doubled, just use a medium skillet. Be sure to use the self rising MIX. It contains flour. I have White Lilly right now. I seem to buy different brands. I just use oil most of the time. Buttermilk does help. ETA: If you want to use plain cornmeal, add 1 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon baking soda, and 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder, and 1/4 cup plain flour....See MoreHelp me design my new rose garden!

I just want to see what it does in terms of spacing. I started almost everything with bareroot, own root roses. I installed a drip line in the bed that circles around the drip line of each plant. Although not my first choice, I mulched with pinestraw because my neighbor has a ton of pinetrees and the needles end up in my beds anyways. I have found its not worth the fight....See MoreUser
