Sedge?

James Watson

I am in Northern Illinois and have a fescue/KBG mix lawn. The area next to my drive way died out a couple years ago. I tried to reseed last spring, started growing well again, then I took a trip where it was in the 90's all week and no rain and the young grass died.

Around my lawn, typically near the sidewalk or driveway, I have this light green, fast growing grass that pops up sporadically. It grows faster than my KBG (like most grasses) and even faster than my fescue. I'm not even sure where it comes from because I pull it before I have ever seen it seed and the roots appear to grow down vs out. After a rain it's really easy to pull. In my new KBG growing along the edge of my driveway I have found a little patch of it. I pulled some larger blades to get a better picture of the grass. I initially thought it was some kind of sedge. If it is, is there something I can use on it that won't kill the KBG?
