Netflix users: Have you noticed?
Comments (19)I have noticed our Netflix mailings seems a little slower then normal. I only notice it because they have always been so fast in the past? But we are about to cancel our membership. For one, I am peeved about the price jump and two, we just don't watch movies that much. We have 2 little girls and 95% of movies we need to watch after they are in bed. By the time we've put them to bed, cleaned up and watched the news, we're asleep! But I will say, their customer service phone line has been great in the past. 24 hours a day!! Can't beat that!...See MoreHave you noticed how names of recipes...
Comments (22)Snickerdoodle - "This whimsical name originated in New England; it's simply a nineteenth century nonsense word for a quickly made confection." Apple Slump - "Louisa May Alcott loved this dessert so much that she named her home in Concord, Mass., "Apple Slump." It was a steamed apple dessert. How about OREO Villa? Dark brown home with white trim. Salisbury Steak - "Dr. James Henry Salisbury might have been the first of the protein-diet doctors, proclaiming in 1888 than humankind's maladies were caused by too much starchy food. His solution? Chopped lean meat, or hamburger steak. To hide the "liver-y" taste of hamburger, he recommended adding horseradish, mustard or Worcestershire sauce. By the 1900s, Salisbury steak was a staple menu item, often served with mushroom gravy or smothered onions". -Was Devil's Food Cake invented as the nemesis to Angel Food Cake? -Red Flannel Hash - so called because of the crimson color beets gave to the dish. -Grainlady...See MoreHave you noticed this?
Comments (14)The problem as I see it is that it's hard to blame the kids when the teachers don't know any better. I worked for a school district and it was shameful though amusing to see these college-educated idiots who couldn't put together a grammatically correct note. I started keeping them to show people and they were stolen. Either by someone covering for them or someone who wanted the amusement. I'd get notes written in crayon with atrocious spelling and grammar. And these people were being paid to teach. It's totally shameful. Even on forums I see people who should know better who post some of the silliest things. A typo is normal and expected. Stupidity from those who theoretically should know better is not. Kids grow up with TV as a babysitter and the shows now aren't exactly like "I Love Lucy". They're using and learning from video games and instant messages. But who are we to talk in reality. Look at the overly-abbreviated posts on the forums! Almost as bad as texting! LOL...See MoreHave you noticed....
Comments (33)Not going to comment on most of this b/c why bother. No one's opinion is changing about anything political any more no matter what happens. But, regarding school shootings, this is a fascinating and frightening article: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2015/10/19/thresholds-of-violence Also, recent NY Times article (https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/30/us/school-shootings-columbine.html) about school shooters competing w/ each other. Media coverage most absolutely plays a role, as killers themselves have said: On Wednesday, the authorities in Florida released chilling cellphone video taken by the gunman in the Parkland school shooting. “I’m going to be the next school shooter of 2018,” he said. “My goal is at least 20 people, with an AR-15 and a couple tracer rounds.” He continued: “It’s going to be a big event. When you see me on the news you’ll all know who I am.” He then was shown laughing, and singing the words, “You’re all going to die.”...See MoreGigi Johnson
