Land's End has some really nice suits. I'm not really sure about their sizing. Tankinis are really comfortable to wear and look like a 1 piece.

You just described me. Lands End has good swimsuits for us. I have one that has ruching on the front and that helps some. Mostly I buy a good cover up.

I got a 2-piece suit, the kind with the top which comes down over the hips (not a bikini style 2-piece). The bottoms are a little skirt. I hate the skirt. When I get in the water, it floats up all around, and when I get out it drags down like a wet towel. Nevertheless, the skirty part because it's more modest. I hate my thighs.

I have always worn board shorts over a one piece swimsuit. Covers the upper thigh area. Usually pick black, they look ok with any suit. Our body type is the same. The shorts can be pricey. Lands End is having a 50% off all swim today only online. Check out the grecian top one, a great suit. The shorts come in a couple of different lengths. Switched to the 5 in ones recently, they look fine. I started wearing them on cruises, years ago.

I only get the 2 pieces with the longer tank top and either a swim skirt or shorts. The last 2 have layered rows of fabric which helps disguise the body lol. You might look at Romans, woman within, websites. I hate trying to struggle out of a one piece to go to the bathroom. Not gonna happen again with my RA.

I hate one piece and think they're unflattering to me at least being short waisted, long legs, C cup. So I still wear my bikinis which I've worn since my late teens. BUT I wear a regular GAP tank top over.

A blouson style tankini top is really forgivng of a challenged waistline. Something like this one from Lands End.

If you really are going to swim, I see Speedo Endurance much like this in every size, style, and color being worn by every size, style and color at our Y and no one gasps or covers theirs eyes ;0)

If you were going to really be active in the water, on the beach, not lounging with a yummy drink in your hand, the selections at Title Nine are really comfortable., although not all give quite as much coverage as I like now. When they say no tuggy, no pully, no creeping, 'stays put' - they really mean it.

If you actually want to swim, that blouson style is not as forgiving as you would think. I can't tell you how often I thought I picked a decent suit, only to be horrified when I look down as I'm walking out of the water. I have found cute a tankini at Target before. Not the best quality but good enough for the handful of times I needed it. (Although while cute on land, it, too, looked terrible when wet! I think most do unless they are snug to the body.)

LOL!! A bikini is out of the question!! In fact, I have a hard time with anyone over the age of 35 wearing a bikini regardless of how fit they are or how good their figure. As my old Brit daddy would say, that's just a case of mutton dressed as lamb :-)

And lounging with the yummy drink is exactly what I plan to be doing most of the time, although splashing around with the grands will definitely be part of the program. I have been leaning towards what they call a "skirtini" - a two piece with a long tank top over a matching swim skirt that looks to be rather slenderizing appearance-wise. See here. Now the next question is color........I am torn between the blue/white paisley or the black with berry trim.

I already have one suit that is another style of tankini with the blouson style top and photos of me in that from our last Mexico vacation is what brought up the 'beached whale' concept. Wasn't a good look :-( And yes, a cover-up is definitely on order as well!!

Agree LandsEnd has great swimsuits, bought 2 for trip to HI. However, most often wore a pair of swim-shorts and top like this, when in a pool or the ocean.

I just bought two of the Lands End Women's Slender Tunic one piece swimsuits. Very flattering and lots of coverage!! I bought the black one and the blue ombré one.

I have some tankini tops with skirts and I always feel like the tankini top floats up while I'm in the water.

Miraclesuits and Magicsuits are also great, but they can be pricey. The Miraclesuit Spectra Banded Maillot suit is my favorite Miraclesuit. Sometimes Miraclesuit has a 20% or 25% off sale.

Check out one hanes place. They do the tankinis where you can buy the bottom that's most flattering...for me it's the shorts due to heavier thighs. And you can buy the top that is most flattering...for me it's one with good support up top.

The one mdln showed is different. I like it.

I found a good buy on a Miraclesuit once and picked it up for my mother who went through suits quickly in pool water at her Y. She was so annoyed with me, said all she needed for a workout was getting in and out of the suit, she didn't even need to go to the pool. Do they come in different fabrics, as she really did not like hers.

Mine is like the ones that gardengal posted, looks ok wet but it does float up too.

A pretty light cotton skirt or sundress over a one piece is what I wear. A towel dries it off pretty well and it looks good while you relax.

another Land's End fan. conservative... not leg holes cut up to arm pits. believe a lot of "mix & match" styles... 2 piece "tankinis".

I carry my weight in the upper part of my body. So I'm like a Flamingo. Lol. I would love a bathing suit that has short sleeves. I never ever even wear sleeveless tops because of my arms...I haven't been in a b suit since I was a teen. I like the one Mdln posted with the shorts.

All good thoughts and suggestions. The only thing that I would add is that if you can actually go shopping to try everything on! I find I have to always go up a size in a bathing suit.

Don't consider color or style. You will be surprised at what might look good on you. last year I bought a periwinkle color. I never wear purple colors, but the suit fit and was flattering.

So keep an open mind, try on everything in your size range and I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

I love the Lands' End board shorts and just bought a pair myself.

Get a few sun dresses that can double as a cover-up. More useful than a bathing suit cover-up.

Get a tankini, that's all I will wear. Not perfect but looks better then a full or 2 piece

My problem area is my upper thighs and I'm a bit shy. I just want to be able to play around with my children comfortably and would rather look pretty than 'sexy'. Lol

I like the Land's End Dresskini. It's basically a swimsuit that looks like mid thigh length sundress. Unlike a swimdress, it doesn't have a bottom so you can pick what you want. I wear it with fitted swim bottoms that are like bike shorts. It barely show. It's practical and I feel summery and stylish. I told my mother to get the same type of dresskini and she wears it with full length leggings, down to the ankles. She feels very comfortable, covered up and modest, as she prefers. She went in the wave pool with my son and commented it was the first time she didn't worry if she was popping out anywhere.

One note, if you go with Land's End, make sure you get your exact size, land's end runs very true to size. I ordered the next size up once because I wanted a certain color and it was huge.
