Side yard disaster. Looking for advice.
Comments (4)I think what I have pictured in my mind will be hard to put down in words but... Try treating that solid layer of rock/rubble that is 6" down as your new "ground level". In other words, lay out some paths in your side yard. Then dig down to rock layer where you laid out those paths. Dig the paths a little wider and lay down your walls for the raised beds. Put all that topsoil you just removed onto the new raised beds. It may not add a lot but you may gain a few inches which will save on buying topsoil. Did that make sense? Also, once you determine it is not a septic tank or bomb shelter or something else you may want to get to some day, take a bar or shovel and just keep testing the ground every few feet to see if you can find any loose spots. Where you find your loose (or looser I guess) spots dig the holes for those plants you bought that have deeper roots. then place those plants with shallower roots around those. If it is rubble and not bedrock I would try and find out how deep it goes. It is possible the builder just dumped rocks there and then graded over them. Just some thoughts. good luck, Jim...See MoreGolden Wave or Lapidus granite advice and installed pictures
Comments (3)Caryclan2, How are you doing? I know you were second guessing on Tue. I hope things are going better. I wanted to tell you that movement in a Tuscan style is perfect. I think the goldenwave will be the best but both are going to be beautiful. Here is a tuscan style kitchen with golden wave granite. This is not exactly what you describe for cabinet colors but look at all the MOVEMENT... Truly a good tuscan style with the warm caramel apple you describe needs layers of movement and colors. You are going to make a gorgeous space. A few more tuscan style kitchens that might show you your ideas are going to be pretty....See MoreHELP - did they just ruin my granite? Advice needed
Comments (5)Most sealers are applied and then buffed off before they dry. If it's dryed on, dampening a cloth with the same sealer and buffing the counter will rewet the stuff on there and allow the excess to be removed. But if I were you, I'd STOP doing anything to the counters yourself! When you call them back to complain and tell them they need to come back and fix this, you don't want them to have any ammunition to try and say it's a result of something YOU did....See MoreGranite installed with problems- need advice
Comments (15)Please ignore my spelling errors in earlier posts. I really can spell but typos become impossible to fix when you're using an ipad! Colorfast, Thank you for reminding me about those instructions. I think I've finally figured it out! There are no pictures of the streaky marble; it just doesn't show up in pictures. It basically looks like someone wiped the marble down with a dirty rag and left it to dry. The installer said that can be fixed so I'm hoping he's right. The attached pictures are of the splotchy granite (absolute black honed), the glue around the undermount sink, and the irregular seam. The "streaky" granite looks as if there are small spots or streaks of oil on it. That's the best way to describe it. The installer suggested over the phone that I try to clean it with Windex. I tried a small spot and it still looks exactly the same. With the seam, the first inch or so from the edge is very tight and very dark, so it blends in very well with the granite (you can't see this in the picture). Then it gets worse, which is the part that's in the photo. I'm wondering why the entire length of the seam couldn't have a tight fit and whether or not it can actually be fixed now. Thank you all again!...See MoreCarolyn
