Cold Spell coming-- OT advice??
Comments (14)Whew, George! Had me worried for a minute there! Yup, it's definitely cold tonight - 18° now, with a wind chill of -1°! The only annuals I have out so far are bachelor buttons and poppies, neither of which has sprouted yet. That 68 degrees the other day didn't fool me - been there, done that. Kinda ticked me off , actually, because the heat was still on full blast in the subway cars. I'll be starting more of my annuals in 2-3 weeks; hopefully, we'll be over these wide temperature swings. But one never knows ... Let us know how your sprouters fare. PV...See MoreCold Spell
Comments (2)Guess I spoke too soon. More snow coming down, could get over 10 inches today. It is better than clear and cold. Glad I went to the Post Office yesterday. Here is a link that might be useful: Milton Weather...See MoreDurantha hit by cold spell
Comments (3)I only have Duranta "Geisha Girl", it's a blue colour. They are a perennial shrub and normally grow throughout the year. One of mine was planted where it got no irrigation and had a lot of die back during the dry. But it recovered quite well when I gave it water and rain came. Cold penetrates leaves quickly, it takes a lot longer to penetrate the stems and branches. So exposure to cold for only a short time would likely only cause damage to leaves and the thinnest branches....See MoreSpelling....is it relevant any more ?
Comments (80)I have two sayings that irritate me. One, which I have only ever read or heard from Americans, is 'I could care less' which clearly means the opposite of what the person is trying to convey. The other is 'the proof is in the pudding' which is meaningless. 'The proof of the pudding is in the eating' clearly means you can only tell how good something is when you use it for its intended purpose. I would also say orientate - many of these things are Commonwealth usages, and what sounds right is directly related to what you heard growing up. 'In back' sounds weird to me, but 'in front' is fine. And I had a hard time stopping my two boys saying 'wait up' when I felt the 'wait for me' I'd always used to sound much better :) I would never use plate as a verb in my conversations but I think it is acceptable in a professional kitchen....See MoreStush2049 Pitts.
