Tilt and Turn windows choices

We're looking to do new home construction in Wisconsin and are planning to use tilt and turn windows. Right now we are looking at :

1. Marvin http://www.marvin.com/marvin/windows/tilt-turn-hopper-tilt-turn ; low E2 w/Argon

2. Jeld-Wen http://www.jeld-wen.com/en-us/products/windows/styles/tilt-and-turn/custom-wood-tilt-and-turn-window ; low-E 366 argon filled

3. Wasco Geneo http://www.wascowindows.com/geneo-high-performance-european-windows/ ; LoE 180 3P 90% argon fill
These 3 come in at a very comparable cost. Can anybody provide info that would help us choose which ones to go with?

Others can answer better on the glass for your climate but without a shadow of a doubt the Marvin T&T Hands down for quality reasons.

I'd get the Marvin just because it is so pretty to look at. I have not heard of quality problems with the Wasco. The Wasco probably has the best performance numbers.

Sorry to see this so long after it posted. About 20 years ago, in Oklahoma, my husband and I tried selling tilt/ turn windows. Our company was called Eurowindows & Doors and we installed them throughout our house - totally outfitted - when we lived in Edmond. Our front door what the traditional pin- security German door. We attended trade shows and made an earnest go of it, but I believe we were ahead of our time, particularly for Oklahoma. See, as an Army brat, I'd lived about a cumulative 13 years of my life in Germany and REALLY missed those windows. We've since moved and left the window business behind, but I still love them and see that they're still pretty pricey and upscale. Still, I'm looking, too, to install them again into my future forever house. They're the best! Good luck!

Thank you so much for the tips. I found the number on the inside - the manufacturer is a German company named Geze, which is written on the cranks. The numbers I found are 062939B (I think this is the window model) and the other number is 063030 (I think this is the crank model number.) Sadly, my google search did not turn up anything using these numbers. I did not see a "track" for a screen outside. I saw two small holes, one at the far bottom right and one at the far bottom left of the window, but there were not corresponding ones at the top (e.g. I thought maybe you could hook a screen on with 4 hooks....) I posted about 10 photos in photobucket - you can see the window from the outside balcony opened inward, plus a closeup of the track, and the tilt in and so on. We have 6 of these windows - does anyone have an idea what screens might cost? I am starting to think this is not going to be as straightforward as I had hoped. Thanks again for all advice and suggestions!

As promised, here are the close-up pictures of the window screen clips. This is the front of the clip: and here is the back: Here it is attached to the window screen. It just snaps into the channel. you just rotate the clip to attach it to the window. The newest screen we have has a system that is a bit different. This is the bottom clip. It is stationary. The top clip moves. It is attached to a control lever by a rod. This is the lever that controls the top clip. When in this position, the clip does not stick out beyond the screen, so you can install the screen. When you push the lever in, the clip moves up and clips onto the window. I have no idea if this is how all screens for tilt and turn windows attach. I know Marvin makes tilt and turn windows. They may have a different system, so you might want to go to a Marvin dealer and ask them how their screen attach.

OK thanks, will have to look into this...got hometech window in for a quote but he didn't recommenced these, said they work better for wider wall construction, otherwise when tilting they would stick too far out on top, interfering with blind drape etc. Also they don't vent very good as the regular outside crank window. Funny...told this to my German boss about this tilt and swing to the inside windows, he said in Germany they turn to the outside...I said I don't think so.

can you share any specifics of why you believe that Marvin wins for quality reasons? Is it warranty, frame, glass quality?

performance is very important to us and we are still trying to decipher who has best performance numbers. This is soo complex .... :)

As far as pretty goes, we want to do black exterior and interior and part of me regrets painting interior wood black if we go Marvin route. I'd rather paint Wasco's fiberglass black.

Perforce wise the the Geneo is at a 0.15 U value, Marvin 0.25. Air number 0.01 on Geneo , good luck getting any air numbers from Marvin.

Not sure. I'd call the Geneo a fiberglass window, it is a glass fiber based plastic.

performance wise Marvin loses big time, I have already tossed the Jeld-Wen out of this conversation for you.I have no experience or much knowledge on Wascos products.

Not sure if the Geneo is advised to be painted or not. You can call Wasco or email them , they respond quickly.

Intus makes tilt and turns with black color options , might be worth looking into.

thank you for correcting me on "fiberglass" terminology. What do you think of that material?

We already asked Wasco and they told us that they would paint it for us ... with some awesome German paint ;) That sounds perfectly good to me for the interior but I am not sure how it'll hold on the exterior.

We also recently learned that Marvin is going to start offering black painted interiors at the end of April.

I have looked at Intus but we do not have anybody local here that worked with them and I am not sure I want to experiment with windows "unknown" to our installers. Of course having said that it'll be first T&T installation for our builder anyway but at least we can have tech reps from either of the vendors on site to help with installation.

I prefer the look of a wood window, and as far as appearance, fit and finish Marvin is hands down the best commercially available wood or aluminum clad wood window available in my opinion.
