Anyone have Tilt and Turn windows?
Comments (84)Sorry to see this so long after it posted. About 20 years ago, in Oklahoma, my husband and I tried selling tilt/ turn windows. Our company was called Eurowindows & Doors and we installed them throughout our house - totally outfitted - when we lived in Edmond. Our front door what the traditional pin- security German door. We attended trade shows and made an earnest go of it, but I believe we were ahead of our time, particularly for Oklahoma. See, as an Army brat, I'd lived about a cumulative 13 years of my life in Germany and REALLY missed those windows. We've since moved and left the window business behind, but I still love them and see that they're still pretty pricey and upscale. Still, I'm looking, too, to install them again into my future forever house. They're the best! Good luck!...See Moretilt and turn window
Comments (2)They're interesting windows; that's for sure. As you alluded to, they are popular in Europe, but are rarely seen in the US. ADVANTAGES: Full uncluttered view (just like a casement), in the "tilt" position they allow ventilation but won't blow the papers off your desk because the air circulates more on the upper half of the room, easy to clean in the "turn" position, can be made in sizes larger than casements, nice for office buildings. DISADVANTAGES: 1. Usually about twice the price of comparable casements. 2. If used in the "turn" position the wind could catch it and smack it against the wall or other furnishings. 3. Furniture might be in the way of it's operation. 4. Window treatments (curtains, shades, etc.) will potentially block its operation 5. Screen is on the exterior so it is a bit more difficult to remove if you want an unobstructed view. 6. Tilt/turn hardware is more costly to replace if it goes bad. If you can afford it, it's a nice window. The biggest issue is usually how can one cover it up for privacy without whatever they're covering it with being in the way....See MoreTilt and Turn windows choices
Comments (8)toddinmn, thank you for correcting me on "fiberglass" terminology. What do you think of that material? We already asked Wasco and they told us that they would paint it for us ... with some awesome German paint ;) That sounds perfectly good to me for the interior but I am not sure how it'll hold on the exterior. We also recently learned that Marvin is going to start offering black painted interiors at the end of April. I have looked at Intus but we do not have anybody local here that worked with them and I am not sure I want to experiment with windows "unknown" to our installers. Of course having said that it'll be first T&T installation for our builder anyway but at least we can have tech reps from either of the vendors on site to help with installation....See MoreShades/blinds for tilt and turn windows
Comments (6)Hi used the pleated shades from Sustainable Shades that can be pulled down or pulled up. Worked well. My Tilt and Turn Windows are from Marvin. You'll have to use the adhesive vs screw in application as the lip of the Marvin Windows is too narrow. I also used these my patio doors. I'll try to get you some pics....See MoreKonrad..just outside of Edmonton Alberta
