Well, a big difference in the garden from the beginning of March until the end. I must say, it has been too cold for the past two weeks. We climb up in temps but then go right back to the deep freeze. Weather doesn't feel like spring. So I have posted some pictures of the early daffodils blooming here on another thread. Now, I never had as many before as this spring because of all the ones I added this fall but I am noticing that while my daffodils have started blooming already (mainly the early ones) others are just breaking ground now. Different micro climates in my garden as I can tell the ones that are barely up are in colder spots not getting the sunshine that some of the others so. Of course, come later in the spring with the angle of the sun those not as sunny beds get plenty of sun. Full sun for most of them. Plus the daffs are not the only spring bulb show I am going to have. Most of the tulips here broke ground and seem to have caught up growthwise to the early tulips that showed their faces first. I should have a stunning tulip disply as I put in many plantings of them. Even so, I am walking around planning were I will add more tulips this fall and what types and color combos they should be. Plan on adding plenty more daffodils also.

Cindy, you are just mean! I love lupines, and that shot of the lupines and the poppies is to die for! Beautiful. drool all over the monitor. Oh yeah, the subject of the posting. Your iris are gorgeous. hard to pick a favorite since I really like all of them. Your garden is so beautiful, Cindy. I guess if I have to choose one, I will choose Coffee Trader...the colors are unique and your photos are beautiful as usual. Thanks for posting such a feast for the eyes. kay

Brenda- Great news if you are really interested in those Korth daylilies. They are all available in Canada no phyto or border crossing necessary. While you still look up all the info and see the pictures on the Pinewood Gardens website you buy them directly from the Canadian source. There were many times in my past that I could not have afforded to do what I am doing now and spend this kind of money. So I am very thankful for the good things in my life at this time. I will be sixty two on my next birthday this spring. Afew years ago I looked at my future and could see that I could not retire at 62 or I would not be able to afford anything. Could not live on the available fixed income. So that would mean using savings and that would mean severe penny pinching. Of course I decided to continue working. Since I knew I planned to keep working until at least the social security retirement age of 67, I started doing all my expensive garden hardscape projects. The plan being to get them all done while there was plenty of income coming in just in case one had to retire. Plus I wanted to have my gardens now so I had plenty of time to enjoy them. I am lucky in that I mostly work on the computer so as one gets older, age is not the factor. My gardening is the phisical work I need strength for, fortunately not making money type of work. Julie- Everyone does whats best for them and fortunately there are so many daylilies that if one had 1,000 acres I bet there would still be daylilies to buy to fill it up. I don't have the unlimited space that you and some others have so I have to make all my space count. I mean look at what I had to do to get this latest garden bed of 16 by 4-5 feet wide, building another of my famous terrace walls. So, there are exceptions (bought SOUTH SEAS this summer) but mostly I buy newer daylilies that fit into my plan. I also want season extending so I get these. But I have a very specific goal in mind for my daylily gardens and I would much rather have the intros of those hybridizers that I very much like and don't much pay attention to what my daylilies cost. I also have my favorite hybidizers that I really like and tend to buy intros from these people again and again. Like I have ben doing from Phil Korth and Mary Jane Meadows. I don't care if they are well known or not except to have to tell anyone that will listen about the great daylilies I had found so maybe others might enjoy the work of somewhat lesser known hybridizers also.

Maryl - I lost the first Bubblegum D. in a pot. I got the replacement in the ground immediately upon getting it in September, and it is doing well, even increasing by a fan already. I do love its edge, and I want to cross it with my pink seedlings. I've never gotten hooked on irises because they increase too fast and take up the space where I could be growing daylilies. I used to grow the white iris Immortality, which reblooms a bit in the fall. But it died out after I moved it in a drought. I may get that again at some point. My soil is quite acidic, so the azaleas love it here. Kay - So sorry you lost your azalea blooms. It's happened here a couple of times. Debra
