Comments (5)Hi Hester! Hadn't seen you posting in a while. I haven't been around a lot either, so maybe it was me. I missed the sale this year. Sounds like you got some cool stuff. Congrats. Sorry we never made it to each others' yards before winter took care of our plants! Maybe we can visit this year. Sounds like you've got some new digs you're working on! Hey, I've got a couple of extra very small borneo giant alocasias if you can use one or two. Let me know. Anna...See MoreThursday's Garden Treasures
Comments (8)Kay - Thanks for the vote on "Big Pink!" Forever Redeemed is a beauty in the mornings. It's a shade it fades so much in hot afternoons. Sherry - I'm excited more than one person picked "Big Pink" as their favorite of these. Sensational Heart has a small picotee edge that is sort of pink. Nancy - Diver Down has a large beautiful bloom that usually opens well and is seldom splotchy. My other Hansen reds are close to the registration heights, but Diver Down has been 20-23 inches tall for all three years it's bloomed here. It does rebloom and multiply well, and it is by and far the best Hansen red I grow for hybridizing. It's a real pod hussy - even in the 90s. It usually has 8-12 buds per scape. Julia - Both the weather and insects are causing the sepal problems on that seedling. Mantis - Sensational Heart does have a neat edge. I would not describe it as cerise rose red. It has orange undertones and an orangey watermark. The color is attractive and just glows in the morning. But it does fade a lot by 3 p.m. Ice Cream Emperor varies in height here from year to year. This year it's 20-22 inches tall. The previous two years it was 24 inches. I have it at the front of the border, so it doesn't bother me that it's short. Kate - Sensational Heart does have stage presence. Thanks for the comments on the seedlings! Nan - We both love the pinks. I like a white watermark on any color daylily. Comments (13)David - I bought those two raised bed kits from Gardener's Supply Co. several years ago. They, are 3X6 feet, 10 inches deep, and made of recycled plastic and sawdust with aluminum side hardware. They are supposed to last a lifetime, and you never have to paint or stain them. I looked them up today and was shocked to see the price is almost three times what I paid for mine. The same one I originally paid $139 for eight years ago is now $339. That's some amazing inflation and sticker shock! Debra...See MoreRelated Professionals
