What happens when you prune a philodendron?

Posted in the Aroid forum and reposted to the House Plants forum:

I have a lemon heart-leaf philodendron and I've just trimmed off some of its trailing vines. Although a bit leggy, I really liked them. But I decided I wanted a fuller plant, took some cuttings, put them in water, and will plant them back into the pot.

So what will happen to these cut stems? Will they split into two stems somehow and continue trailing downwards? This is my hope.

Here you can see one of the cuts:

Will something like this occur? This little bud is far down on a well-developed vine. Will this grow into a leaf?

Also... I may make another post on this, but since I am posting already: my philodendron has spring tails in its soil. I have spread out waterings, and I think this helps to reduce their population. However, I am growing uncertain about what insect is actually in the soil (it could be multiple). When I move the leaves on occasion, a bug will fly from them. ONLY ONE at a time (it seems), but I am a little concerned.

Thanks, everyone.
