What happens when the rose you ordered isn't what you ordered?

I ordered and recieved what I thought was Duchesse de Brabant but it finally bloomed and it is not that. I looked it up and it is Ducher. I don't know if I should be disappointed or not as I really was looking forward to having DdB. If anyone has this rose can you please tell me how you like it? I'm wondering if I should contact Countryside about it or not or just leave it be and order what I want later this fall. Any thoughts?

Meghan, of course you should call Lisa at Countryside and let her know. Mistakes happen and our rose friends who are also vendors will do everything that they can to remedy the situation.

Thank you, I'll give her a call and let her know. The thing is it said Ducher on the tag but being new to roses I thought that it was a shortened name for DdB..that is until it bloomed. Then I put two and two together. Silly me!

I'ed still like to know about Ducher and how those of you who have it like it.

About 10 years ago, we undertook a large house remodel project that cost many $. We ran out of money so we could not do the kitchen. This is what I did over the years: Replaced appliances because I, at least, needed that. I bought a make-do refrigerator at Sears outlet. Less than 1/2 price of a new (not dented/rejected) one. I bought a range at a local appliance store at a discount because I forget why... Scratch maybe. You might call around the appliance stores and see if they have "reject" or "seconds" section. Many do. Replaced the awful double sink and faucet with a single deep sink and a low/mid grade faucet from Lowe's in the same cut out. This was about $3-400 (my DH did the replacement). This was a huge functional improvement. I am living with my laminate countertop. No burns marks like yours... Obviously, if you are painting the cabinets yourself, it is the elbow grease you need. You have options if you are looking at gently used appliances. Every town has used appliance stores. I would call these stores and have them keep an eye out for downdraft range in the size that you need. My brother uses these stores for his rental properties. No issues at all. You can also look at Craigslist. My very cheap as noted above brother also found a range this way. I don't know what your long term plan are for the kitchen and the house is. This will make a big difference in how you chose to spend/save your money.... For us, we knew that we would get around to doing our kitchen later. We are doing it now. 10 years ago, I did not want to do a make-do remodel at a price we could afford then. I wanted to save and do the remodel that I really wanted to do later. From your post, I am not sure what your long term goal is. This will be most important... If you just want to have a reasonable kitchen for a few years until you can really remodel, then you should do as little as possible and live with what you can. Then later, do the remodel right. For example, when and if you do your full kitchen remodel, you may not need to use a downdraft range. For the floor, again, live with it until you really do the kitchen. You may extend the hardwood or do the tile later on....

Ingrid, that's interesting that 'Yves Piaget' wasn't as happy in your garden as at the BC. Do you think that was due to microclimate or some other difference? It is hard to sift out and weigh the variables. RU is a full zone lower than us, but the summer temps are probably pretty similar if looking at the heat index for each location, so a summer visit probably would be instructive. OTOH, I tend to have less energy in the summer heat, so getting my act together to go anywhere is always an iffy proposition. Alana, I'm in the same boat... local gardens I'd like to visit/revisit, but somehow it doesn't happen. I hope y'all are getting slightly cooler temps for the weekend like we are. Thanks, Virginia

So you def love Awakening! Do you have experience with New Dawn? I don't know if I'd pick Awakening again because I think there are better roses out there, and she is so very thorny. OTOH - she's healthy, doesn't black spot, and doesn't require much intervention on my part. I think I might just get a welding apron and some leather gloves though just to make pruning her easier. I don't think I'd have it on a porch if I had children, so now the pain she inflicts is more of an amusing novelty for visitors. On still another hand, she has a good fragrance (Apples) to me and since that and blackspot resistance are my two biggies she's been a good rose. As to rebloom I haven't found this rose to ever really stop and it has a good flush in the spring. I do not really keep up on deadheading, really I just rip old roses off as I walk by. If I had to pick again, I might go with a rambler in that spot and weave in a different climbing plant for later flower. An additional consideration for me was winter hardiness. I live outside of Phila in the last bit of zone 7a, and, in my opinion, we still get the occasional zone 6b winter. May of my other plants are protected by a long hedge which I've found further insulates my plants and helps maintain the temperature in the rear garden but the climbing roses climb above that protection. I'm not a woman who will go out and bury my rose canes in the ground (I have a fig tree that's on its own in the winter some years we get fruit, some years it regenerates from the base). So in additional to all I've written above I also wanted to consider a tough plant that would shrug off ice storms and the occasional freeze to 0º.

Oops, I'll bet SOMEBODY got your Duchesse de Brabant and you got their Ducher. Ducher has lovely blooms in a very pure white and will be beautiful next to your Duchesse de B. IMHO you lucked out, as your "wrong" rose is a very nice one and a good bloomer.
I have the same situation and am hoping the supplier will make good-- the rose I received last year as Marning Has Broken, never bloomed last year. Well it's blooming now and it is DEFINITELY the once-blooming Madame Plantier. I really have no place for such a huge rose. Am very disappointed.

ducher de brabant? lol! yes you did luck out. that is a very nice rose, i don't have it but would if it would only survive here. The standard practice is to just send you the correct rose. They will not make you send the other one back. I think everyone gets an occasional wrong rose or not labeled mystery rose, it happens.

You were probably meant to have Ducher. It is a lovely rose, very refined and yes, will be a fine escort for the Duchess.

Believe it or not I got Ducher instead of Duchess of Brabant last week. That is really funny. Same exact problem but, I got mine from Chamblee's.

Luckily, I noticed it 2 days later when I was planting it. I called them right up and they apologized and sent me my Duchess on Monday. It should be here by Thursday. The best part was they told me to keep Dutcher. Of course, being that they were sending another order, I had to add to it.

It must be a label thing as when I first opened the Box and looked at all the Labels I didn't notice it either. I think we both got lucky as I've done some homework on Dutcher and think we'll grow to like him.

Yep, for my money, you got the better rose. Duchesse de Brabant is a PM mess here, tho I know that isn't a universal problem with the rose all over the country.

Okay, I'm in the minority here but I don't care much for Ducher, gave mine away. Its a good landscape plant (nice shape, not too big, good BS resistance, blooms freely) but the individual blooms are small. Ducher's a good rose but it doesn't tug my heartstrings.

Ducher is a very nice rose, but there's nothing quite like Duchesse de Brabant. She absolutely seems to love it here at my place. Be sure you get one.

I just recieved the right rose (Duchesse de Brabant) from Lisa today! Yay, so happy to have this rose!
