Side note... the wind could have taken those peony poppies and I would have been fine! They're growing so weird. The wind didn't take them though. Hopefully they bloom and they are lavender, as they are supposed to be. The kale like, weird yellow-y foliage isn't doing it for me. They're supposed to be more bushy and green. Oh well. Gardening is an experiment.

Hi Haku! They're low voltage lights and they're actually not that expensive for the high quality! Plus they're low voltage so the ongoing cost is minimal. They cast the coolest shadows at night and really give some height and structure during the day when they're not on. I got a mixture of the shorter and taller ones, but the ones you see there are all the shorter ones. I will say... when I bought them they were 50% off the price currently listed... so maybe just wait and watch the website. They have sales often. ;-)

Hi Lavender. Koko Loko has a mild fragrance in the morning here... but it is much more pronounced in the afternoon.

Ingrid... Here's a closer shot of the young Peppermint Parfaits with Yves Piaget. Yves must be putting energy into roots because he is not doing a thing above ground. Peppermint Parfait got some blackspot... which is weird here. But we have had some really strange weather so I'm not holding it against them yet.

Here's a closer shot of the peony poppies near Love Song. Weird aren't they? They have almost grown as tall as the standard.

Cori Ann, I love the soft blend of colors in your rose pallet. They complement each other so well. Each rose is beautiful, but even more so next to the others.

I must admit that peony foliage is funky looking, but I know zero about peonies. Nevertheless, the green foliage is a much better look than the yellow which seems to be sulking. So much of gardening is trial and error, and the same plant can perform differently just a few yards away. That's part of the agony and ecstasy of gardening!

Me too Fragrancenutter! And those are little citrus trees above too... so I will also have the fragrance of orange, lemon and grapefruit blossoms! I am going to just be in heaven!

I agree Ingrid. They are peony poppies... so they're just an annual (not really peonies, just poppies with blooms that look like peonies)... so after this year they may not be coming back. It's a little too funky looking.

What is the rose in the third small photo, is it love song?

I also want to grow Florence Delattre, but some people in this forum said the shape is ugly, or only had one bloom in two years. How's yours? I really love its color, but haven't seen the real plant as it is not easy to find here. Is the color as lilac as the screenshot ? I don't want pinkish lavender.

Hi Daisy. The third photo down on the left is Florence Delattre. Mine is a brand new band, so I can't comment on it yet... but I will post lots of photos of its habit and blooms once it gets going. It hard to get here too and I have also never seen it in person. I took a chance on it because I'm really excited by its mutable color changing qualities... some of which may be pure lilac and some of which may be pinkish lavender. Roses seem to really love inland CA and Australia so if it's going to grow anywhere well... it may be here or there!

That's going to be gorgeous! I have a three legged arch tellis that has all lavender climbing roses with purple passiflora and white moonflower vines. I should start on some rows of bushes next. Love lavenders & purples!

Daisy: I haven't seen this rose in person, but based on the photos on helpmefind, I'm inclined to think that your screenshot doesn't realistically represent the colour. The tag on my Blue Moon had a photo of a pale violetish blue flower, obviously tweaked, as no rose can express true blue (at least not without genetic tampering). Bloom Moon isn't exactly pink, but it is on the pink side of mauve, if that makes sense. As for Florence Delattre, it's probably a pale, desaturate magenta, and I suspect there are roses that appear more lilac to the human eye.

Cori Ann: It's an interesting selection in that they don't really compete with each other. Though all are categorised as light mauve/purple blends, they are all very different, not only in shape, but also colour. Can't wait to see how they compare when you show photos of them in bloom.

I'm excited for you too, Cori Ann. I really appreciate all the effort you put out and also the picture postings. We all really love that, because we can share in the joy, and misery in some cases.

CoriAnn, this is a brilliant idea!!! I'm looking forward to seeing some pictures of Florence D.; on HMF, the photos show a colour that is very washed-out and muddy in comparison to the ones posted here. I myself have become very,very focused onto lavender,violet, purple, mauve roses,after realizing last year that these were the colours that pleased me the most,so I'm on the alert for good ones in this category. I'm even thinking of changing my present policy and actually trying an HT or two!

Usually it's in the 80s here by this time. We had a few days like that, but then more rain and storms.

Now it's raining again and looks like it will be for another week or two. The rain is great after having drought for so long, but I miss the sun!
