Chemo question (also posting in Health)

Well , after I had my hysterectomy I was told it was Stage 1B and would need 6 treatments every 3 weeks. I had my first last Friday. I have felt fine so far , and talking to a few people sounds like the effects of each treatment builds on the previous, so the worst times might be at the end ? Has that happened to anyone ?

Chemo reactions vary from person to person, depending on the type of chemo received. Good luck!

I was going to say what imstillchloecat said. The best suggestion is to try not to worry about it and concentrate on getting the benefits from it. Deal with the effects when they come. Best of luck.

Hi Brenda, How nice of you to ask! I had a HIDA scan and it showed that my gallbladder was fine, so that's not causing problems. I've had labs drawn and they are normal. Next is a new ENT on Monday, to find out if I have an inner/middle ear problem. The nausea and dizziness are doing better, but now my ears and sinuses are acting up! I tried my CPAP again a couple days ago and woke up with horrible pressure in my forehead and a headache. So I don't know what the heck's going on. All this might be because of the weirdness that my fibromyalgia causes. But it sure sends me on alot of wild goose chases! I actually found an internet site today that talked about how CPAP can cause problems.......but I don't know if this ENT will agree. I'm hoping I have an infection that can get cleared up, and then I can use my CPAP again. I'd hate to think I have to be tired the rest of my life! I hope its not cancer from the radium treatments I had when I was little. Don't ask me why I had them. It was sort of one of those fad things back then. :( Are you sorry you asked yet? lol! Gibby, I come from an alcoholic home, too, and don't drink for the same reason. As you said, I think any addiction can be substituted for another. Kelly, as I said in another thread, deprivation never tends to work for me. The last thing we need is more guilt, and I think the idea of a "detox" is sort of like seeing our bodies and our eating habits as dirty and shameful. I know some people do it w/o that connotation, but it's good to see if this is part of why you want to do it. If so, you may want to reconsider. As for craving vegetables vs. sugar . . .again, using my "look deeper" attitude, think about what you are craving when you want sugar. First of all, remember that most of us DO crave sugar. That is not abnormal. But, is there more? Do you crave energy? Do you feel like you are "treating" yourself when you want the sugar? Again, most of us do like the taste of sugar-- it's programmed into us. Breastmilk is sweet for that reason! I have mentioned that I like the ADDITIVE attitude. So, if you want to eat more fruits and vegetables, go for it! One of the things I learned about myself was that I do like veggies . . .a LOT, but only if they are prepared (vs. just boiled/steamed). For example, I could easily live on veggies the way they are prepared in Ethiopian cuisine. My friend just made a salad with grilled veggies and pesto. I craved it because it was GOOD. Bottom line-- I don't think juicing will cure you of cravings. But, if you want to add more fruits/vegs. into your diet, maybe try preparing them in more interesting ways, as well as juicing, but maybe don't limit yourself to only a juice diet until you have your expectations clearly laid out. (Not saying you don't already.)

Appears to show two completely different species of trees. if it is the Fall season in your area, leaves on many trees will show damage bc by that time, they are at the end of their life cycle. If you have the same problem in the spring, you'll want to identify what it is and take steps to correct it. Putting the wire around the trees is most important as browsing animals do the most damage by removing the entire branch tips along with winter buds that then have to reproduce again in the spring, while most 'bugs' simply eat leaf tissue.

Just a thought to explore based on personal experience before I discovered I had a problem with some sugar free or reduced sugar stuff especially anything with sorbitol which is added to many reduced sugar stuff. His constipation may be because his diarrhea has completely cleaned out his intestinal track. It is very hard to find any of the things like mints that people will use after eating or before meetings that does not have one of the products.

The side effects and their intensity vary greatly from person to person. My 1st series was 6 cycles of R-CHOP. I had minimal nausea for 1-2 days after each cycle, but in general felt better and better between cycles. I'm now receiving 3 cycles of R-ICE, which is a much more intensive treatment. I'm still easily able to control the nausea which lasts about 1 week, but the fatigue is much more pervasive.

Just deal with the side effects if/when they come and don't worry about them. This day and age, most are quite controllable, unless you count things like your hair falling it. Mine has...twice.

My husband had chemo and was told that he should be sure to take his anti-nausea medicine BEFORE he became nauseated. He didn't like taking meds "unnecessarily" and didn't listen: he learned and took his meds.

Just follow their instructions and know that it will be over. And rest - chemo and radiation are very fatiguing.

As everyone has said, each person reacts differently to treatment. I don't remember the end being any different than the beginning except that my red blood cell count didn't bounce back as quickly and required intervention. Stay positive and find things that make you laugh out loud. I hope your course of treatment goes smoothly.

I haven't been through it personally but family members have. Stay positive, and let the nurses and doctors know how you are doing. There are lots of options to mitigate side effects, they learn more all the time, so let your health professionals help you. Good luck!
