Need budget friendly island range hood for low ceiling! HELP!
Comments (0)I only have a max of 24" to work with (because of a soffit) to allow proper distance between the bottom of the hood and the top of the range. I have 8' ceiling, but the soffit is 1' so I'm really working with a 7" ceiling. My counter height is 36" and the range adds another 3" to that. Why is it so difficult to find a budget friendly low profile island range hood? Any suggestions would be great!...See MoreKITCHEN ISLAND DILEMMA NEED HELP!
Comments (20)If you're having the tv atop the mantle do what I'm doing and get a Mantle Mount for the tv. Regarding symmetry, it's overrated. For example, my fireplace isn't centered with the wall and dividers leading into my kitchen. In fact my ceiling fixture and lights are centered on the fireplace and not the overall space of the room and it looks right. Here's the plans of the room. Notice how the dividers between kitchen and living room are centered but the fireplace isn't? That's because on paper you're looking at all elements at once but in reality, you are not looking at the beam, the island, the fireplace, etc all at once. In fact, nothing in my kitchen is symmetrical (except the cooktop between the two windows) and no one would look at my kitchen and say it's wrong because it's not symmetrical....See MoreNeed Help With Kitchen Island Lighting - 14' Ceilings, 13.5'X5' Island
Comments (10)Thank you for the responses. I guess a little more context would have been helpful! Let me see if I can fill in some of the gaps. Here is a layout of the dining and kitchen areas. It's not exact since this was the architect layout initially and we have made some changes on the fly during the construction - it's very close. The island is big and was how we wanted it. We have 5 kids. This tends to be our gathering place and with everyone wanting a hand in cooking, it just fit - and we have no regrets. Same for the ceiling height. That was also our choice and what we wanted to do - as the construction is going along...we absolutely love it! Definitely no lack of choices...it's just about finding something that really speaks to us. Less worried about price point than finding something that we love - although our budget is not unlimited. We selected this for above the dining table: Hubbardton Forge Etch We are considering this for the island Modern Forms Cosmic The lighting store suggested this above the island. We like this...but are having second thoughts. Hubbardton Forge Sling Front Entry Door Sconces: Hubbardton Forge Shadow Box Tall We don't have a lot of other fixtures in the house. A lot of recessed lights, accent lights, and ceiling fans. If you have any suggestions on foyer lighting, I would appreciate it as well. We don't want the traditional look of a large chandelier and similar to the island...looked at so many things that just didn't get us to where we wanted to go...and now just considering recessed lights. I hope this helped clarify things a little. Thanks again for all of your comments! Bobby...See MoreIsland hood - replacement dilemma
Comments (8)The answer is to select the hood, get it correctly positioned over the range. Cease worrying that the disguise for the first mistake be cherry.. That looming box doesn't look good even though well crafted., We can't see the island in your photo. But in any scenario, if a "disguise" is the only possible solution due to expense or any other reason? Create the shallowest possible trimmed soffit, and use CEILING COLOR paint and drywall, it should not be smaller than the dimensions of the island in total. DON'T make it cabinet stain, if it must exist. Paint is your friend. You don't want a wall hood in that location. You need to get to the real issue. A hood in the correct location - properly installed. to vent well, and do its job- in the least obtrusive manner possible. Forget what you now have....See MoreSusanne M
