Range hood dilemma
Comments (5)I have something very similar in reverse. I have a 36 inch wide glass canopy hood with an upper cabinet on the left side and no upper on the right. The back door is over to the right. My backsplash tile goes up to the ceiling. It doesn't look strange. And no one has ever said it looked off balance....See MoreReplace Light Box with Island Hood or Keep Downdraft?
Comments (6)I would remove the light box and replace with pendants. Is the downdraft working for you? Decent hoods are expensive to install. I'm all about function so I am putting a lot of attention into the hood in my kitchen, but it depends on how you cook. Lovely space to work with :) ....See MoreIsland Dilemma - hood & lighting help needed !
Comments (11)What will the decor of your kitchen be? Traditional? Contemporary? I am asking because I noticed that your pic of the kitchen with the enclosed hood is what I would call a country kitchen look - farmhouse sink, bridge faucet, wood window shutters, cottagey-blue cabinet color, the chairs and other furnishings. That wood hood is part of that theme. Is that the decor you are seeking for your co-op apartment? Will the chandelier you are planning also be in that style? A stainless steel hood--perhaps in a more attractive shape than what is shown in your OP--is more versatile style-wise, and will be less expensive, and just easier to do. Here is an image gallery from Vent-a-Hood of island hoods. Maybe one of them will appeal to you in case you decide not to get a wood hood. http://www.ventahood.com/index.php/vah-media/idea-gallery/category/4-island...See MoreReplace downdraft ventilation with island range hood
Comments (1)Any particular reason that you want to come off of the existing fan power, like maybe a switch in the island structure? I'm sure it's doable but probably easier to feed it from elsewhere. If you have an unfinished attic immediately above and an unfinished basement immediately below, it'll be simpler than otherwise. I recommend that you call in an electrician to get it evaluated.
