Ficus Elastica 'Burgundy' Rubber Tree
Comments (4)Come to think about it, yes it has been in that pot for all these years. Add to that, I have never changed the soil either. It is certainly not distressed though... Why sell it? I simply have too many large plants. Maybe I will consider keeping this one and selling the 2 potted 6' tall Yucca trees ( 3' pots and 3 trees each). Here is a pic of one of them from a few years back. They are now about 1/3 larger and much more full at the base....See MoreHELP!! Narrowing down Ficus Elastica aka Rubber Tree varieties!
Comments (16)I found this written by a researcher at Central Florida Research and Education Center "Ficus elastica, the India rubber tree, wasgrown extensively as an indoor tree during the early 1950's and earlier. Today it is difficult to find commercial sources of the plant because it has been replaced with several cultivars listed below: `Decora' was a significant new cultivar at the time of its introduction, about 1950. With its broad elliptical leaves and more attractive growth habit, it soon replaced the species. `Doescheri' has the narrow leaf shape of the species and a striking variegated pattern of green, grayish green, yellow, white and a pink midrib and petiole. `Robusta' is a compact form which resembles `Decora', but is more compact and free branching. `Rubra' has dark, wine red leaves when grown in full sun. Much of the red color is lost as the plant grows under reduced light intensity. `Rubra' is also listed under the names `Burgundy' and `Abidjan'. `Sophia' is a new green cultivar with leaves which are smaller and more rounded than `Robusta'."...See MoreRubber Tree Burgundy leaves turning rough and scratched but no wilting
Comments (1)long time listener, first time caller! LOL!! Hi & welcome! I'm not sure if it's just thirsty, has the scars of previous pest damage, or some combo of both. Does the pot have a hole in the bottom?...See MoreRUBBER PLANT PICKLE! Cloudy discoloration on Ficus Elastica leaves
Comments (5)It looks like residue from insecticide or fungicide applications; or, early on, the plant was in a situation where it was watered from overhead and the water was allowed to repeatedly dry on the foliage, leaving dissolved solids residue on the foliage. It's possible too, that the same chemicals mentioned above were injected into the water used for over-head watering and were left behind on foliage as the water dried. I don't think it's cause for concern. If it interferes with the plant's ability to carry on photo synthesis, chemical messengers will inform plant central the leaves aren't carrying their weight, and the plant will automatically shed them. Too, your plant looks healthy enough that removing the affected leaves shouldn't create a scenario where the plant is using more energy than it's creating by turning the sun's energy into food ..... so you can remove them w/o need to be concerned. Remove them by snipping through the petiole (leaf stem) about half-way between where it's attached to the stem and where it transitions to the leaf blade. The stub you leave will fall off on its own in a week or two. Pulling leaves off can easily damage latent buds resting in leaf axils (angle formed by a leaf and the branch it's attached to).
